Too many upgrades to list but here's a few:
1) Many engine upgrades including crankcase lowered 20mm w/modified coolant circuit, VarioCam Plus, increased displacement, variable air intake system
2) Introduction of DFI-Direct Fuel Injection
3) Sport button as standard equipment
4) Improved tire pressure monitoring system
5) Enhanced PSM-Please Save Me system
6) Optimized Off-Road ABS
7) Re-designed Front Grille/Headlamps/Fenders/Rear Valence/LED Taillights/Rear Spoiler
8) Addition of two crash sensors for SRS system & rollover detection system
9) Dynamic cornering lamps vs Static cornering lamps on optional Bi-Xenon headlamps
10) Last but not least, a price increase over the previous M.Y.

So if a 2004 and a 2008 cayenne s were identical, would the 2008 be worth the 10-15k$ increase? Or, for all practical purposes, the same car?

oh no, 955 to 957 is a big leap, feels like a much better car. Drive both and you will see.
