Tires... already.

Yeah... had the P!G for 2 days and I am already looking for tires. Reason being the tires on it are summer performance tires which is no good here once the snow starts (which already did yesterday).
I was looking on options available and on discount tire website it says that I need TPMS Rebuild kit. Question is this a necessary item at every time a new tire is fitted and if it is, is Discount Tire a good place to get it?
Any suggestions on tires that are good for snow and ice plus maybe year round (all seasons) would be welcome.
Anyone use TireRack to order tires and get them mounted locally?

Not sure about the rebuild kit. When I have gotten new snows had to replace one sensor. Tirerack is my choice and I have them mounted locally. Great deal!

I run Continental DWS on 20" wheels in the summer, and Michelin Alpin on 18" wheels in the winter. I'm about to change over to my winter rubber.

Dennis: I have been thinking the same Continental DWS. It says it can handle snow and looks like a real all-rounder. I have the 18" wheels. Wish I had a 2nd set of wheels for winter. ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
pdxjim: Did you have to replace the sensor because it was bad? Did you find it was bad when replacing the tire?
Looks like Discount Tire is trying to add in some extra $$....

I ran the DWS all year last year. It's not bad in the snow, but it's no snow tire. It's a compromise. If you are only going to go with one tire all year, it's quite good.

Continentals are okay. I have them on my Range Rover in the 20's. They made it through pretty rough winter conditions up to Steamboat without issue. However, I did buy dedicated snow tires for my Cayenne in 21's. Not taking any more chances.

Go to Tirerack.com.
Ask for Damon.
I wouldn't recommend going too "discount" on what is keeping you on the road.
Why do you think the expression "rubber hits the road" came from?

A few of the Porsche dealers have specials on winter tire AND wheel pkgs. I would check with them first. Sunset has had them in the past, wouldn't surprise me if they had them now.
I've been running the Yoko Parada Spec X's on my S, they're A/S so I wouldn't suggest them for your winters but they've been great for me in TN. We do get some snow but you get more in 1 storm than we get all winter (and I like it that way).

I bought a set of 18" OEM Cayenne S wheels from my dealer that were takeoffs from a new vehicle purchase. I paid $500 for the set and they are in "as new" condition. There are lots of deals like that out there. I was originally planning to go with Pirelli Scorpions, but I can't get them until later in the year, so I went with Michelin Aplins.

Not clear on why TPMS rebuild would be necessary unless you're have sensor issues other than revenue for TR. I just put on new tires on my '08 w/o any issues w/ the TPMS.
Also, I have a second set of winter wheels w/o TPMS - just have to live w/ the yellow light and check pressures.

thanks for the great info! I guess I will order via Tire Rack and get it mounted at one of their recommended stores.
I will also first enquire at the stealership.. err.. dealership if they have some winter tire/wheel package going. It will be nice to have a 2nd set...

Can't wait to hear about your Alpins. I wanted them, however when I called Damon at Tire Rack, they were not due in until November but they did have the Pirelli's in stock. I went with the Pirelli Snow & Ice in 21's. They look amazing in that size! I plan to have them mounted when my Cayenne arrives in about a month.
