The tires are Michelin Latitude Alpin N1 255/55 18. I've had them on for about a week now. So far, so good. We had our first real test today with about 10-inches of snow and some really slick roads. They performed very, very well. It was a dramatic improvement from the Continental DWS when it comes to snow (no surprise there). I'm very pleased so far.

FWIW, the Continental DWS that I run on my summer wheels are shot after 33K miles. I think they are the best summer tire that I've had on the vehicle when you consider the combination of ride quality, treadwear life, handling on dry and wet roads and the occasional light snow. They were also extremely quiet right until the end of their useful life. I'm planning to buy another set of them for my summer wheels.

I have a CTT with 21" Michelin Latitude Sport tires. Obviously not a winter tire. I am searching for a set of dedicated winter tires to head up the mountains with. Here's my question, I'm interested in a Porsche cayenne OEM set but what size should I get? Sometimes I read I can only go down to 19s, other places I read I can go down to 18s. It obviously has to do with the gigantic brake calibers on the turbo..advice?

I don't think you can put 18s on a CTT, but I'm not entirely sure. Perhaps a fellow CTT owner can chime in.

Just a FWIW - my friendly (not-so-local) dealer (Princeton Porsche in Lawrencetown NJ) offers a match to Tirerack delivered prices.. Mount/balance/disposal is $50/wheel (competitive with the high end front end shop that usually does my mounting and balancing.) Balance is with a Hunter Road-Force (considered state of the art..) And they'll give me a loaner while they're doing it. Nice guys, great service.

As much as I dislike the Pirelli line of summer performance tires, mostly due to their low tread life and expensive cost, their Scorpion Ice & Snow winter tires are amazing during harsh Montreal winters.

I've got them mounted on my wife's ML320 and on my GTS with 20" rims. Zero issues last winter and a great price per mile of tread life.

Curious how the Blizzak LM60 does in snow? The surveys on TireRack seems to rank it #1 compared to Alpins and Scorpions.

DennisC: I was going to ask you how those tires did in snow... glad you posted your experience. Thanks for that!

+1 on all of that - I have had the same experience. But factor in the manufacturer warranty of 50K miles, and they are actually an amazing bargain too. In your case, you've got about 1/3rd credit toward a new set of four, and you still got double the miles vs. what most get out of P-Zeros.

Turbolove, I run 18s on my 08 GTS when I am towing. I am pretty certain that the GTS and the TT run the same brakes so therefore I would bet that 18s will fit the turbo.

Second this. I just got a set of 18" wheels with sensor from ebay. I am going to costco to install the Alpin tires. They can do it at $235 each with $70off a set. This price includes everything and road hazard. This is the best deal I can find.

And there will be snow this weekend. I am in Delaware area.

I use 18" Pirelli Snow and Ice tires on my 2004 CTT. Got the wheels years ago on ebay. Performance and wear on these tires are excellent. Initially, I got 'H' rated version, replaced a couple years back with 'V' rated. Big difference on dedicated snow tires versus M+S's, but a PITA to switch twice a year. Got tires from Tirerack, and mounted locally (Wheel Works). Didn't bother with Hunter Road Force, but balance is good.

Summer tires are Michelin 20" Diamaris from Costco. No Road Force there either, but runs smooth.

I actually intended to buy Pirelli Scorpions, but they were out of stock so I went with the Michelins!

turbolove. depends on the year. If it is 2009 or later, 18's will not fit. I had 05 TT with 18's and expected them to fit my 09 TT. Did not. Had to go to 19's.

I bought the Porsche winter wheel set of RS Spyder wheels 20" , came with Dunlop SP Wintersport 3D. The tire has won numerous European winter tire tests. $4500 from Suncoast.

For a 2011 CTT. Can't go smaller than 19" in the new cars. PCCB require 20".

We've had about 24-inches of snow in the last 12 hours, and it's still coming down. I should get some good experience with the Latitude Alpins in deep snow today!
