Air Suspension Failure: Update: Still in shop
UPDATE: Well, they have replaced the air compressor, control unit and a vacum pump. Took time getting the parts in, that is OK as I have a 993 that I enjoy driving more now! They ran many tests and it seemed to work fine. Till they took it out for a test drive..... Air Suspension warning came on even thought air suspension works just fine. They threw in a new battery to see if that makes a difference and will check it out for the next few days. Any other ideas?
I have searched here and not found anything like this...
05 Cayenne with Air Suspension, tonight went to drive it, the suspension raised up to its highest level when I tried to lower it. Now it won't move up or down and I have the "AIR SUSPENSION FAILURE WORKSHOP" warning on the dash. The suspension seems to be stuck in the high level. Any ideas?
Thank you.

Could always try putting it in the work position then taking it back out? Directions are in the manual, I think you hold the button forward for about 10 seconds with the ign. on to get it in and to get it out hold it to the rear. Should get the dash warning along with it, check the manual to be sure.

^+1, review the manual and see what happens when you try that.
Faulty microswitch on one or more corners
Loss of compressor (fuse). Try using the compressor and hose to inflate something.

Speaking of the air supsension, how often do you guy's raise or lower yours? I normally drive mine in the first position down from normal but in town I sometimes run it at normal. And I swear that sometimes it returns to the normal position on it's own once in a while. I wonder if it is good to exercise the system once in a while rather than never changing it although changing it too much probably wouldn't be too good either.

When left in normal it drops down one setting when you hit 80mph and will return after a stop.

I've been advised by the Porsche tech to have the wheel alignment done in the preferred suspension height setting that you use the most, otherwise you can have tyre wear issues due to the camber being out of optimum alignment if you drive extensively in the non preferred height setting.

Good news for me! Fixed for $210.00 After hearing all the horror stories about the Cayenne air suspension, I took it to De Jung Motorsports in Cotati. Steve is a great guy, he has been working on my 993 for years. He kept it for a few days to diagnose my problems. Most shops would have just starting replacing things, Steve took his time and figured it out. Seems the compressor was going out, new compressor from Porsche was over $1000, rebuilt about $750 and a rebuild kit he found from VW was $20. Kit consisted of a "piston ring, head gasket and a few valves" all looking to be plastic. After the rebuild and giving it a few days workout to make sure all worked, I am back on the road. Suspension works again, no problems at all. Now just have to get the coolant pipes and starter done, and P!G should be as good as new!

All is good
And after driving for a few days, no problems! I had an S before with steel springs. The air suspension seems far superior. Much better ride...but I still worry about major failure.

Congrats on the relatively cheap fix. And yes, I too like the air supension and hope to get a decent life out of the components.
