Default Cayenne considering lease new or buy used. Advice please

Hi All, I'm thinking about picking up a Porsche Cayenne for my wife. She really only needs the V6 base model with the nav/heated seats. Of course I like the 2011, but the local Porsche dealer quoted $930 for 36 months, 15k a year on the Cayenne w/ 2900 dwn. No negotiation possible as they are sold out. (Goes to show how great the Porsche is.) Land Rover has plenty to choose from and better deals by a @few hundred, but I want a Porsche. LOL.

So I'm starting to think about picking up a used Cayenne instead. Seems I can get a 15k miles '09 for @41k asking price. (Maybe some negotiation possible). Seems '08's are going for @38k with 20k miles. I really like the 2011 a lot but the lease is a little out of whack compared to the competition. I can't argue with supply and demand but a '09 for 18k less isn't so bad either. (Or I can wait another year or so and pick up a preowned '11 for @ that price.)

What are the major changes between the model years? Any strong advice for one year over the other? Seems like a big change to the body in '09. That's all I can see so far. Biggest change in '11 obviously.

I was considering used also until I drove the new one. Lighter, quicker and much more nimble. The interior was SO MUCH nicer that I had a hard time going back to the prior models.

I agree with George, but your wife might not agree. Let her sit in both versions and let her decide.
If you decide, you run the risk of living with that decision for a while.

Lease = warranty. A good thing.

Haven't driven one yet but watched reviews online and that's a good point. Seems the 2011 and 2012 is a major improvement mechanically and aesthetically. Seems the proof is in the pudding since they are hard to get. Multi month wait list right now unless you like the few they might have on the floor.

Pre-owned 09 would have a 6 year 100k warranty.

Seems? Odd word! Whats your feeling? For me it may be better mechanically but aesthetically it's a P!G in a poke!

I wouldn't worry about the mechanicals much: if you avatar pic is any indicator, you're more than used to cranky P-cars that require intensive, expensive and repeated maintenance. Even an '04 will be a breath of fresh air...

I never knew that!
Pops, Lewis......wtf?

Sweet928, only because you are a fellow 928-owner and deserve to get a logical and truthful response about the ''P!G'' term, I'll give you a hint: Look at the 928's instrument cluster and tell me what symbol you know that resides dead center and usually illuminates whenever there's a problem?

A common misconception about the 928 that, quite frankly, I've taken offence to.

The packaging belies the contents, to all us Russians on here perhaps this term is more familiar.

"кот в мешке"

Понял?

"Купить кота в мешке" это просто чудесное, замечательное и очень мною любимое выражение Но, или мой Русский хромает или я чего-то слегка не понимаю и оно совсем не вяжется с вот этим "it may be better mechanically but aesthetically"

Купить кота в мешке, это сделать покупку ничего не зная о недостатках оной and if I may be so bold, I'll say that идиома была использована слегка не в тему, but I do applaud a "coming out" of another Comrade
