Bummer, my CTT is stuck in port waiting for a new DME. More information below. It has been stuck in port now for 2 weeks. Who knows how much longer before the correct DME is available? Anyone else with this issue or dealt with this specific problem?

My salesman informed me that my CS is affected by this issue. Apparently they have one vehicle at the dealership, one in port, and one still on board ship (mine) that will require the DME replacement. Since my car isn't scheduled to arrive until 3/25 he thought that it might not be delayed much since the new computer should be on it's way and would be replaced at the port. But nshanny's post doesn't give me a lot of confidence in that assumption.

Mine is stuck in port. It arrived two weeks ago and has not made it out. My guess is that it is cheaper for Porsche to replace at Port instead of at the dealership. Either way, another week or so before I get it. Bummer.

Interesting as mine arrived in port on 8 March and I took delivery last Friday 2011 Cayenne S. I have put a little over 100 miles on it and engine runs smooth. Now the big question, tell me about your '76 track car. I track a somewhat personalized '83 Euro SC

I have a 1976 911 with a 3.0L engine. The original engine was converted from CIS to 46 Weber Carbs. I had a bunch of work done over the winter including a LSD, shortened gears (3-5), move to R-compound tires, bigger boxster brakes on the front, and some other odds and ends.
The car is a blast to drive as it really teaches you to drive and learn the car. No helpful computers at all. It is very lightweight, weighing in at 2200 #s.
This is my second year with it as I picked it up last year from a guy down in North Carolina.
Some more pictures attached from when I purchased the vehicle. I need to take some more recent pictures.

Very nice, what size rubber are you running. I'm currently running 205 55 on the front on 16 x 7" Fuchs and 225 50 on the rear with 8 in rims. Have a set of 7 and 8 in 15" rims for autocross as it is a easy way to shorten the gearing. I know what you mean, I enjoy the new cars but truly love the old one.
Going to see if I can get 225 50 on the 7" under the front and go 245 in the rear. Need more rubber under the car.

4 Brake vacuum sensor
4.1 Vehicles produced before week 45:
The vacuum sensor is located in the vacuum line -arrow- and can be replaced separately. A defective vacuum sensor is indicated by the fault codes P0556 to P0558 in the DME control unit.

In the event of a complaint, work through the fault codes using “Guided Fault Finding”.
If spare parts are required, the vacuum line and pressure sensor are still available.
4.2 Vehicles produced after week 45:
The pressure sensor that was used previously in the vacuum line and the corresponding wire harness are no longer used. A sensor characteristic for the brake vacuum is stored as a model in the DME control unit for this purpose. Given this, corresponding fault codes are no longer necessary.
Due to a parts backlog of brake vacuum lines (with sensor), these will still be used up during vehicle production up to around the end of January/beginning of February 2011. In this case, the pressure sensor is connected to the wire harness, but is switched off due to the sensor characteristic stored in the DME control unit.
If spare parts are required, the vacuum line (without sensor) will only be available from around mid-March 2011. The vacuum line with sensor can therefore be installed as an alternative.
5 Gateway control unit
5.1 Replacing gateway control unit
If the gateway control unit needs to be replaced, read out the data from the old control unit before installing the new control unit, see → 903519 Removing and installing gateway control unit.
If the data from the old control unit cannot be read out: → 5.2.
5.2 Entering data manually in the gateway control unit
If the data from the old control unit cannot be read out using PIWIS Tester II:
Select ⇒ 'PPN' and then ⇒ 'Vehicle information' to enter the data manually from the 'PIWIS information system' into the control unit using the vehicle identification number. Then check that I-no. S35 is listed in the vehicle data.
If I-no. S35 is not listed in the vehicle data:
Read off the engine number from the engine in the vehicle and compare it with the numbers specified under “Date of Introduction”. If the engine number is the same or higher, I-no. S35 must be entered in the gateway control unit.
Reason:
A newer engine (as of week 45) may have been installed and I-no. S35 might not have been entered in the vehicle data.
6 DME control unit
If the DME control unit needs to be replaced and the gateway control unit will be replaced at the same time, the gateway control unit must be replaced first → 5..
If only the DME control unit is to be replaced or programmed:
The DME control unit must be programmed and coded, see → 247055 Replacing DME control unit.
After programming the control unit, it must then be coded, see → 7.7.
7 Only vehicles produced before the date of introduction - week 45/2010 following installation of a new engine.
Update the vehicle data and adapt the DME control unit using PIWIS Tester II
Initial situation: Battery charger and PIWIS Tester II are connected to the vehicle.
7.1 First select the required vehicle in PIWIS Tester II and then select the following in the 'Control unit selection overview':
⇒ Press F7 (Additional menu) ⇒ 'Maintenance of vehicle data' ⇒ Press F12 until 'PR numbers' appears.
7.2 ⇒ Press F12 ('Coding value' column) ⇒ Scroll down and select ⇒ 'S35 - Long oil level sensor'.
7.3 Press ⇒ F8 to accept your selection. Press ⇒ F12 to continue.
7.4 Press ⇒ F8 to save your data (the message 'Writing vehicle data' appears).
Once the data has been saved, the message 'Generation of vehicle data is complete' will be displayed.
7.5 Press ⇒ F11 to return to the 'Control unit selection overview'.
7.6 Check the data version of the DME control unit:
Select ⇒ 'DME control unit' ⇒ 'Extended identification' ⇒ 'Program status': WS5890C348SES07.
If the data version is less than or equal to WS5880, the DME control unit must be re-programmed, see → 247055 Replacing DME control unit.
7.7 Code the DME control unit:
Select ⇒ 'DME' ⇒ 'Codings/adaptations' ⇒ 'Automatic coding'.
Once the control unit has been coded, the message 'Coding has been completed successfully' will appear.
⇒ Press F12 ⇒ Switch ignition off and then on again.

2 Engine oil level sensor
2.1 Vehicles produced before week 45:
If spare parts are required, install the old oil level sensor, Part No. → 948.606.160.02 .
2.2 Vehicles produced after week 45:
If spare parts are required, install the new oil level sensor (I-no. S35), Part No. → 958.606.160.10 .
3 Engine oil return unit
3.1 Vehicles produced before week 45:
If spare parts are required after using up existing stock of oil return units, Part No. → 948.107.085.11 , install the new oil return unit (I-no. S35), Part No. → 948.107.085.12 .
Continue to use the old oil level sensor.
3.2 Vehicles produced after week 45:
If spare parts are required, install the new oil return unit (I-no. S35), Part No. → 948.107.085.12 .
4 Brake vacuum sensor
4.1 Vehicles produced before week 45:
The vacuum sensor is located in the vacuum line -arrow- and can be replaced separately. A defective vacuum sensor is indicated by the fault codes P0556 to P0558 in the DME control unit.

In the event of a complaint, work through the fault codes using “Guided Fault Finding”.
If spare parts are required, the vacuum line and pressure sensor are still available.
4.2 Vehicles produced after week 45:
The pressure sensor that was used previously in the vacuum line and the corresponding wire harness are no longer used. A sensor characteristic for the brake vacuum is stored as a model in the DME control unit for this purpose. Given this, corresponding fault codes are no longer necessary.
Due to a parts backlog of brake vacuum lines (with sensor), these will still be used up during vehicle production up to around the end of January/beginning of February 2011. In this case, the pressure sensor is connected to the wire harness, but is switched off due to the sensor characteristic stored in the DME control unit.
If spare parts are required, the vacuum line (without sensor) will only be available from around mid-March 2011. The vacuum line with sensor can therefore be installed as an alternative.
5 Gateway control unit
5.1 Replacing gateway control unit
If the gateway control unit needs to be replaced, read out the data from the old control unit before installing the new control unit, see → 903519 Removing and installing gateway control unit.
If the data from the old control unit cannot be read out: → 5.2.
5.2 Entering data manually in the gateway control unit
If the data from the old control unit cannot be read out using PIWIS Tester II:
Select ⇒ 'PPN' and then ⇒ 'Vehicle information' to enter the data manually from the 'PIWIS information system' into the control unit using the vehicle identification number. Then check that I-no. S35 is listed in the vehicle data.
If I-no. S35 is not listed in the vehicle data:
Read off the engine number from the engine in the vehicle and compare it with the numbers specified under “Date of Introduction”. If the engine number is the same or higher, I-no. S35 must be entered in the gateway control unit.
Reason:
A newer engine (as of week 45) may have been installed and I-no. S35 might not have been entered in the vehicle data.
6 DME control unit
If the DME control unit needs to be replaced and the gateway control unit will be replaced at the same time, the gateway control unit must be replaced first → 5..
If only the DME control unit is to be replaced or programmed:
The DME control unit must be programmed and coded, see → 247055 Replacing DME control unit.
After programming the control unit, it must then be coded, see → 7.7.
7 Only vehicles produced before the date of introduction - week 45/2010 following installation of a new engine.
Update the vehicle data and adapt the DME control unit using PIWIS Tester II
Initial situation: Battery charger and PIWIS Tester II are connected to the vehicle.
7.1 First select the required vehicle in PIWIS Tester II and then select the following in the 'Control unit selection overview':
⇒ Press F7 (Additional menu) ⇒ 'Maintenance of vehicle data' ⇒ Press F12 until 'PR numbers' appears.
7.2 ⇒ Press F12 ('Coding value' column) ⇒ Scroll down and select ⇒ 'S35 - Long oil level sensor'.
7.3 Press ⇒ F8 to accept your selection. Press ⇒ F12 to continue.
7.4 Press ⇒ F8 to save your data (the message 'Writing vehicle data' appears).
Once the data has been saved, the message 'Generation of vehicle data is complete' will be displayed.
7.5 Press ⇒ F11 to return to the 'Control unit selection overview'.
7.6 Check the data version of the DME control unit:
Select ⇒ 'DME control unit' ⇒ 'Extended identification' ⇒ 'Program status': WS5890C348SES07.
If the data version is less than or equal to WS5880, the DME control unit must be re-programmed, see → 247055 Replacing DME control unit.
7.7 Code the DME control unit:
Select ⇒ 'DME' ⇒ 'Codings/adaptations' ⇒ 'Automatic coding'.
Once the control unit has been coded, the message 'Coding has been completed successfully' will appear.
⇒ Press F12 ⇒ Switch ignition off and then on again.

Well, it turns out I won't see my vehicle until at least April. I was just told by my dealer to not expect it this month. Why can't they just take a DME control unit from a working non-sold Turbo unit and replace it?

Just heard from my salesman. Parts will not be available until at least the beginning of April and it will be a while after that before my CS will be released. And it is due in port this Friday, the 25th. So close......
