IMHO: The importance of owner maintenance is overstated; anything that goes wrong with a modern car in the first 100,000 miles is almost certainly a problem with the design or flagrant abuse by the owner. Consider the common problems with these cars: how many of them are result of poor owner maintenance? In post after post, people talk about taking amazing care of their Cayennes, and they crap out anyway. I've seen many posts with the reverse as well: people who do little more than change the oil, hose them off and drive them for tens of thousands of miles with no problems.

Strangely enough an 04 with over 100K will probably be a good deal because you know that the pipes and the shafts have already been replaced as have the coils or it would not be running. Hmmmmm

Chance you take with any old car, especially if you use dealers for maintanence.

I do all my own maint so dont really care, if i could not and had to rely on garage services I would prob re-think my secondhand cars.

I just spent the best part of 2 days ( i tend to get caught up cleaning bits as I remove them and plenty tea) replacing my Mafs and Dump valves. Other than the parts it was free for me. I would say you are looking at a whole days work maybe more if like me you have never worked on a cayenne before. Including parts £1000? scary stuff.

I like your line of thinking. What, if anything, do you do above and beyond what Porsche dictates at the regular maintenance intervals?

I've always wondered if more grueling activities required different or even accelerated maintenance. For example, regular towing, or constant 'sprited' driving, or even DEs. I've heard guys say they change their oil after every DE as a matter of good habit. While I don't track mine, some mornings my commute resembles a driving event...!
