Default Cigg lighters in the Cayenne

So my brother smokes, and he asked me for a cigarette lighter, and sine we were next to my Cayenne I decided that I would let him use one of those. I have a question as to how these work though, because they do not stay in, you have to hold them, and they don't turn red (use to seeing them turn red), they only heat up (sometimes they don't). So I couldn't light his cig and had to go into the house to get his lighter. I also tried to use to see if it would light some wood on fire because we had nothing else to light it with (probably a stupid idea, but it was worth a try), but it only made a barely noticeable burn mark on the wood. Why don't these work like normal car cig lighters and turn red and all that good stuff ?! Do you have to hold it in for a whole minute? Am I doing something wrong ? Does it only heat up and not get red like other ones? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Back in my 'smoking' days, I had to push and hold the lighter in an old Trans-Am. I almost started a darn fire one time from holding it in too long. I don't recommend you do this.
There's definitely something wrong with your lighter. Even though you yourself don't smoke, there may be a problem with the lighter socket which may give you problems when powering up your 12V accessories in the future. See your dealer.

Oh and yeah, tell your brother to quit smoking. ;-)

Try the one in the rear and see if it does the same, I think not

You may have the Anti Smoking option as opposed the Non Smoking option in which case it cost you $1500

I think the 12v accessory plugs are a little larger than US lighters. Once you use them the little spring clips won't hold it

Feel free to use your imagination...

+1. Been there with the 928's German air compressor whose plug wouldn't fit into my other vehicles' lighter socket. I've been looking for an adaptor since...
