Marc,
Don't mean to "rain on his parade" no pun intended, but why run these for winter? They look to be just a regular all-season type tire. With a tread rating of 420, they should hold up pretty good. I have not ran this particular tire, but do have experience with Toyo and I've been very pleased with the brand as a whole.
I run the Open Country All Terrain on my Ford Explorer Sport Trac and they are great in the snow. I run Proxes T1R on my 968 Cabriolet and my 911SC and they are nice and grippy. I plan to run a Toyo high performance summer tire on my 06 CS (19") once my existing OEM Goodyears wear out. I'm running 18" Blizzaks for the winter.

Hey I'm with you!, running pirelli scorpion winter tires here as well but he does not see the need. Our winters are not that bad and to be fair we run bridgestone 960as pole positions on my wifes all road year round with no issues including trips to buffalo in the winter but I am still a fan of dedicated winter tires.
He asked me and I knew nothing of that model but they are at a low low price point.

Marc, I had the Proxes ST-I's in a 20-inch size on another truck and they were absolutely horrible. A lot of issues with 'out-of-roundness' and flat-spotting/vibration. They were also extremely noisy as is the case with most Japanese tires as compared to Michelin, Pirelli or Continental.
I had heard that the ST-II's were somewhat improved over the first model however you should have your buddy do his homework and research them well prior to buying. On the other hand, my experience with the Toyo Observe G-02 was amazing and extremely positive.

I've had the ST II 255/55/18 tires on my C-S for about two years and 15K miles. They did well in the heavy snows we had last winter and they are wearing great so far. Huge improvement over the OEM Conti's!

I have the Toyo on my CTT 20 inch Techno wheels. I like them. Toyo updated the Proxes one or two years ago and the quality/performance is certainly above average. Thing is, there are not that many choices for 20 inch wheels. Most other choices, you will have to spend more than $1,500 per set. The Proxes may not be the best performing tires but it would certainly be the best value choice from the performance/price stand point.

I have them on 20 Sport Technos too as summer tires. I used them for about 20K miles and there is hardly any wear. They have been extremely quiet so far and have very grip.
