11' Land Rover LR4
or
11' Cayenne V6
the Land Rover is priced around same and has V8, the Cayenne carries a image and has better interior...
why would you guys tell me to take the V6 Cayenne over the LR4, or why would you say the LR4 is the better vehicle?

Riley, IMHO a better comparison to the Cayenne would be the Range Sport.
But please, if you DO decide on a Cayenne, do yourself the favor and go for the 'S'.

the V6 is amazing value for the price, and a good car.. but the car is priced the same as the LR4 which is more "sporty" and "rugged" and larger engine.. not sure..

i have both, wife drives the Land Rover, I actually sold my 997 to get my pepper. I
needed room to carry more things and people. Best move i made. The pepper is just easier to drive and handle then the rover. Think battleship versus PT boat. One takes forever to turn.......the ride of the pepper absorbs the road better, no comparison. You will get 12 mpg if lucky in the rover. But....the wife loves it for whatever reason. I just think its too hard to drive and its so high up it almost feels like you are driving from the second floor.

I say LR4. The new interior puts it miles ahead of the LR3 it succeeds. It also has a good amount of pickup considering how heavy it is. To put it simply, it's utilitarian. The V6 does the Cayenne an injustice, I would always be thinking of would could have been (S, Turbo).

been checking out the cayenne options..
jeez they are smoking crack, 1900 for bose, 6000 for burmeister, 2000 for alcantara headliner..etc etc.. and i thought the options on my 997 were out of control

I am a former LR3 owner and current Range Rover owner (wife's). The LR4 is a vast improvement in handling, interior and powetrain than the LR3. The LR4 has an enormous amount of interior room, especially in the third-row and cargo area - it is like an enclosed short-bed pick-up. Offroad, the LR3/4 are with-out peer in terms of traction, though the one trick ponies (Rubicon and FJ) have better ground clearance. It is nowhere near as fun to drive on the road as a Cayenne, however; but my wife loves Land Rovers because she sits so high-up (look down on everyone) and they ride like a cruise ship. Miserable on a curvy mountain road, however, Sport and LR2 being the exception. Unless you are going offroad or need the third-row/cargo room, the Cayenne is a much better drive.
As far as realiability. Our 2008 Range has been the most reliable vehicle we have ever owned, and we have owned Lexus, Toyota, Honda, Mazda, and Subaru. Only one issue with the stereo volume that was fixed. No other electrical issues, creaks, rattles -nothing. As any Land Rover person knows. Never buy a Land Rover before 2006, and never buy during the first year in a model change (i.e., do not buy a 2010).
On the other hand, my Cayman was very unreliable and was given back to Porsche with many unresolved issues (OE hatch thunk, rattling rear quarter window at 5K rpms, steering shimmy on tight turns, completely bogus seat "memory"). Yet, it was the most fun and enjoyable car I ever owned.
The 2009 GTS has been fairly reliable once all of the "updates" have been applied.
