I am curious about the fuel rail setup. Just put the diesel emblem on the back and you will be fine. I would not buy the car and if I owned it I would be looking for a new engine.

First time for everything....

Sounds like early stages of bore scoring. Can you take an endoscope and look at the cylinder walls? I would require a PPI to include that.... the experts would chime in soon on the sound of the engine, I do hear the rhythmic clack clack..

^^THIS^^ I hear the beginnings of a very expensive venture. Walk away and keep looking. All the best in your search.

Cheers,
Tom

Yes, that's not good, but a bad AOS can also cause that kind of consumption If it's scoring, removal and inspection of the spark plugs should show you which cylinders you should scope.

Thanks everyone luckily I haven't purchased it , I think its frightened the life out of me basically throwing my money away after poss 12 months of driving it , and soon as any potential buyers reads through this : never going to find someone willing to buy it off me in the future. Maybe find a turbo with no knocking as Flat 6 says they have larger tolerance
and less prone to (freezing) pistons in the bore. I live on the coast in UK and we have many winter days well below freezing.

Cool thread

05' CTT dead at ~128k, likely a cracked block? maybe a head? seems less likely. exhaust gasses in the coolant, unexplained coolant loss.

What would cause a cracked block? Is that just one of the outcomes of scoring? Mine has spent it's life on the west coast.

What makes you think cracked block vs blown head gasket, which I think would be the more likely failure. Any overheating ever as that would warp the head and cause a head gasket failure allowing coolant into the cylinders which would burn and go out the exhaust for the "unexplained coolant loss". A cracked block could do the same thing but then you'd likely have the milkshake oil issue.

so a) never overheated and b) according to the owner of Evoms the CTT has stainless steel head gaskets and very rarely experiences head gasket failure. He did say cracked head was a possibility though.

What's included in that $10k? Is that accurate for an LNE rebuild or just a number you threw out?

Hi all,

I am an owner of a 2004 Cayenne base model 3.2 (6-speed). it's a great car as I use it mainly for my weekly long distance business trip. I have to drive about 250km (500km round trip) weekly for work once a week. The car is now at about 160,000km on the dial and everything still runs very well. It's been very reliable and I honestly haven't had too many problem.

I want to see if it's possible to swap the 3.2 engine to the 4.5 engine of the same generation to give it a more powerful engine. I honestly have no compliant of the car and I love it so much but just want a bit more power to enjoy my weekly drive.

Any suggestion is welcome.
Cheers
Eric

I have had a base and an S. To be honest unless you are pulling a trailer the base has a respectable amount of power. The difference would not be noticeable enough to go through the hassle of replacing the electronics, wiring harnesses, modules, etc. it would be much easier to buy a different Cayenne. In my opinion you would regret trying to do an engine swap.
