Out of these, what's the best option for a Cayenne?
I want to get a Cayenne.
Ideally I want to get a used one, 3-4 years old, because it will have depreciated significantly from original price.
I don't NEED it, just buying for fun. I do not have a daily commute, I do not have a family to haul around, so I probably won't be putting a lot of miles on it.
Here are a few used car listings I found:
'05 Cayenne Turbo, 100k miles, $28k
'05 Cayenne Turbo, 40k miles, $35k
'08 Cayenne, 13k miles, $40k
'08 Cayenne S, 36k miles, $50k
The turbos are fun because of the hp, the later models are nicer because they're newer.
Which would you pick out of those and why? Would the first one at $28k end up costing a lot of money in repairs over the next 5 years?
Thanks!

If you dont have anything to haul around and need cheap fun just buy a 996, it has huge depreciation , and will be MORE fun. Hell get a 99 model and you can pay in the high teens for it , that way you can beat the **** out of it without worry.

then why would you want one? what kind of fun? barreling around in sand or snow? I have an 04CS, if I didnt need to tow or go in the snow I'd have 996/7.

Thanks for your replies. I've never considered a 911 because they look very expensive. Never thought I could get one so cheap.
I already have a (old) sports car, so having two sports cars won't be practical for those days I need to haul something in the trunk. The other thing is I would like to have bluetooth and gps built into the car. But it's definitely something to consider.
How are 911s and Cayennes when the mileage gets high? Are they expensive to repair/maintain?

That would depend on what major items have or have not already been taken care of.
Cayenne- coolant tubes Will leak at some point and will be expensive to replace, lots of bad coils on peppers too, not cheap.
996- have a bad habit of engines going mammories skyward. obviously Not cheap.
But, get a 996 that already has a new engine, and you are good to go.

I just looked up the listings again, both the turbos already sold.
In my case I think I'd be wise to avoid anything needing repair, just because I don't want to suddenly have to spend $10k.
I think my plan will be to wait 1 year til the new model comes out, find a low mileage '08 with V6 and finance it. If my math is correct I should be able to find one around $30-35k.

Since I own 2 of those, I think the best deal is the 05 CTT with 40K for $35K. Great car and you still have a lot of life with it.

When buying a used Cayenne from a private party, can I buy a warranty from a Porsche dealer, until say, 100k miles? What would something like that cost?
Also, what do you think about buying from "third party dealers"? You know those places like Al's Used Autos. They always seem to have an bundance of Cayennes listed.

Now, if your dealer buys the car and then sells it to you as a CPO, then OK.
CPO depends on how much work needs to be done in order to bring it up to CPO standards...usually 2000-3000, depending on what it needs (brakes, tires, belts, fluids, yadayada)
Of course if the car is too old, it will not be eligible for a CPO anyways.
Probably since most of the Cayennes were bought from auctions since the dealers didn't want them.
