cayenne diff problem??

I'm about to replace mine
Hi everyone, first time poster long time reader.
My 06 Turbo, like many others, has literally been through the entire list of known issues, literally. Nonetheless, I consider her to be in great condition and is still a head-turner everytime. Im at 91k miles and have taken personal care of this thing since new.
For about 6 months now, starting only at 40 mph on onward, a constant whine that increases in pitch and loudness as I press on the gas pedal to is definately coming from the front diff. (I can almost feel it in my foot when I hit the pedal). So its not necessarily linked to speed, since I could be picking up speed on a downhill without any whine, as long as I am not pressing the gas pedal on the downhill. If I even barely tap the pedal, the noise immediately appears and dissapears when my foot is off.
Again, the whine seems quite independant of RPM and engine, since it constantly increases in pitch and loudness even during and in between gear changes. The whine does not dissepate at all during gear changes rather it seems more linked to my foot on the gas and will continue to steadily increase in pitch as long as the gas pedal pressed.
Gosh I really hope that made sense and/or wasn't overkill.
3 shops want to swap out the diff for either a used one or a rebuilt one for for a total with labor of minimum 3,400 up to 4,200. The last shop "topped off" the tranny oil but didnt drain it completely, eventhough he heard and was also disturbed by the noise. I have a feeling there'd beplenty of metal shards in there and maybe he couldnt deal with it.
Anyway, I really was intending to own this beauty until at least 160k miles But spending 4,200 right now is a nice half down payment on a '15 e-hybrid.
Some much needed advice would be greatly appreciated.

Three Wheelin'
It would be interesting to dismantle your original front Diff to see what the problem was. Problems and/or noise from the front Diff isn't entirely un-heard of.

noise was still there so changed it again.......
still there so changed the drive shaft.......
still there so changed the discs and pads as they were on there way out anyway.....

Dear all, I had the same problem with my Cayenne Turbo 2005.
With a very annoying noise coming from what I thought was the front wheels bearings.
I change the two front wheel bearing, the noise was still there.
I then took my car to a Porsche specialist who told me that the front differential was the issue.
This would have cost me £3000.00 to get a new different from Porsche, so I've searched online and find a company who could refurbish it.
My local garage took the differential of the car and I took it to this axles specialist.
This is apparently a comment problem on the Cayennes and VW Touaregs. In total I paid £400 to refurb it and another £600 to remove and refit the differential.
The annoying vibrations and rattling noise are now gone.
I really hope this will help anyone who have the same problem as I had.
PS: find below the contact of the company that refurbished the diff.

This was the signal I got when the cardan staft was going belly up. Might be easier to rule out than diff noise (that why I’m back on the old thread).

It very annoying when we spend so much for a car and the manufacturer can't get the simple stuff right. Driving with this type of brake noise is unacceptable and NO it's not normal. I had the same issue with my Audi S6 and was told the same BS that you all were hearing from the dealership. So I found out on some high performance brakes, you need to "bed" the brakes. After performing this, the noise went away. So give it a try but I would still complain to the Manufacturer how this crap is NOT normal. Let me know if this works for you guys.. good luck!
