it is like a loud ticking and whirring sound that is coming from the engine baye---sounds like coming from either the black pipes or underneath them

Cool Cayenne Engine noises

I have heard some sounds in the engine compartment now and then, but nothing major and mainly when very cold or hot. Have it checked out anyhow.

Good Luck!

Spectacular in depth analysis.....perhaps you could try to be a BIT more specific?
Try using really complicated words....like lifter, tensioner pulley bearing, insufficient oiling due to clogged galley....

it sounds like there is knocking right under the plastic cover which says 4.5 and also there is constant knocking coming from the bottom of the engine----tuck--tuck--tuck---tuck---tuck----the sound can be heard from the wheel wells while suv is idling

The pump for the heating system is located in the drivers side wheel well - mine used to tick - they replaced it - it still ticked - then they decided it was normal. The lifters can be a bit noisey when cold or if you are low on oil - I would check your oil level.

I don't know about the undercar sound but the one on the top could just very well be your injectors you are hearing.

Talking ltc

Larry,

Thanks for your constructive critizism, but please keep your nose out of it if you have nothing useful to say.

I've been out of town for a few days and unable to visit rennlist until now. I'm actually typing this on my iPhone. I forgot how entertaining the Cayenne forum can be.
