The wife just washed our MY 04 Cayenne key fob for a full cycle. It was in her clothes, not mine. I'm letting it dry out without the battery. My bet is that it won't work properly.
Any idea what replacement involves? I've read that the whole control module in the car may need to be replaced in order to get a new key to work. Also heard that it may cost over $100 for the new key fob.
There were several threads discussing the key fob replacement in the past. IIRC, the average cost is about $350 to replace, which includes the "raw" key, rekeying, and reprogramming the fob. Mine costed about that much when I lost mine.
I'd buy the fob from Sunset Porsche (best prices on OE parts) and have it programmed locally. No way to avoid that one... need the PIWIS to do it. Unless you can find an indy who has invested in the tool.

Sounds like an excellent opportunity to upgrade to the new Panamera key fob.
Exceptionally well styled, along with a wireless operating range of 7 miles.
I really wish that we either get back to simpler keys i.e. ones that aren't the size and weight of a small "brick" or get with it and get over having to have a "key" i.e. better security methods or type a code on larry's panel like "kool-aid" to start the car.. perhaps more along the line of the smart card in your wallet and you merely push a button in the car...
don't we old farts still read newspapers and like simpler keys of our youth??
hmm, or since PAG does spend millions on marketing are there guys who really do like the key fob design and that's why they continued the trend with the Panamera and its "hot wheels" design?
Has anyone replaced their first generation Cayenne key fob with that of Panamera? Is it possible?
What are you unhappy with your black beauty with the 3 foot range? I remember when we threw them at alphas and betas to unlock the doors.... bad on the paint job however. Usually the answer on these type of upgrades is "nyet"
