Oil Change at Dealership. $218.85
Just wanted to post so that you can have some fodder to use against your dealership if they are charging outrageous amounts for an oil change. My dealer charged:
Labor: 105
12 0z. Zmax: 18
Alum. Seal Ring: 1.40
Oil Filter Insert: 23.20
Mobil 1 Synthetic: 70.20
Shop Charge: 10.50
10% off coupon: -21.78
Sales tax: 12.33
Total $218.85
Tom Williams Porsche in Birmingham
I've seen people quoting $400-500. I don't have the tools or the inclination.. this is very reasonable to me.

Surprised they're putting ZMax into the engine.
IIRC, that was not PCNA/PAG policy. Perhaps they are responding to ZDDP levels in the oil?
BTW, what oil/viscosity did they put in?
Nice to have you around again.....

you and I think too much alike.. I won't be having ZMax put in again.. I questioned it at the dealer and the dealership is a Sonic owned location, "that's company policy".. so I said, "well, what happens when I say: don't do it". Service Rep. "I write don't put in ZMax". Okay, I'll do that next time.. then I say: but I thought Porsche were purists and don't like additives.. Svc.Rep, "me too but I guess someone has discussed with PCNA".... I'm a skeptic.. I'd say $18 for couple bucks of bulk bought ZMax = extra Profit$
Down here they put in 0W40 for all models. Good questions... You may go to the head of the class......

I just don't like the 0w(x) weight oils (there's a very long thread on the 993 forum if you want to read up on it) and prefer the 5w40 oils which are also on Porsche's Approved Oil list. So I do my own oil changes. It's a hell of a lot easier on the Pepper than it is on the 993!

The design of the air cooled engine doesn't do well with 0-50 or 5-50 oil due to the large amount of expansion in the combustion chamber, the water cooled engines don't have the same issues, so I would have no problem with the light weight oil.

Some would argue that unless you live in a cold environment where viscosity at startup demands a 0W oil, the modern Variocam engines do better with 5W (or higher) than a 0W.
Of course from my perspective, it's just a Cayenne.....not even worthy of changing the oil, no matter what viscosity......well, OK, Larry did top his off once with 2 cycle kart premix oil....hey, it WAS synthetic and it costs $50/gallon......or wait, was it Wesson oil....can't remember, never mind.

No, I'm not familiar with that user. There are several knowledgeable techs that have expressed a concern for the 0w40 weight oils so I run 5w40 (which is on Porsche's Approved List). I don't go so far as to say I "hate" 0w40 I just choose to use 5w40 weight in my vehicles.
