Default PCM2.0 Nav Update

For those who have 04/05 MY PCM 2.0 units (CD Nav).

I just got the new map updates and installed them.

There are now 7 CD's covering the US, Canada Mexico and Brazil. I really need to travel more.

There is one update CD which seems phone related, at least when inserted it does a phone update to my non-phone PCM, a bit like being able to play the violin after getting a tooth out.

This completes quickly, you then insert whatever map CD you normally use and it carries out the update. You need to run the engine as there have been published warnings of not trying to update when power may be lost.

I think this release may not have been voluntary, a little bird told me.

From what I can tell my local roads seem more detailed and PIO is more usable with even local food stores now showing up together with a nearby vin yard.

Here is the rub....... $299 plus tax, I got mine from the great guys at Sunset Imports

Look out for dealers trying to sell for more than $500 (seriously)

Part number is 000.044.901.21

That's very close to the same price as the update for the '06+ DVD systems. (the $299 price)

SOP.
Disruption of power when updating the flash memory can result in the PCM/CDR becoming a 'brick'.
This is followed by the dealer being required to sell you a new PCM/CDR.

Start and run the car....or connect the battery to a charger during the process.....always.

Really?
I don't recall that discussion.
What kind of person would sue PCNA over something as petty as CDROM updates?
What could possibly force the world's most profitable car company to do something it had no intentions of doing?

Do you have any additional information?

Just a guess.. but the same kind of person who'd sue their mother over their inheritance?

A judge or arbitor who was going to rule in a way that would cost them more money for their "no intention".

I thought this day would never come...

Is Suset the best place to get them, or should I try Navteq directly?

Question Do you get the 7 CD's and the update disc?

Just wondering if you get the 7 CD's and the update disc for $299? My local dealer also told me there was an update that could be done to my MY04 CS, he wanted $299 + $168 installation. That included updating the firmware from PCM 2.0 Version 2.0, to PCM 2.0 Version 3.0

Did you do the installation yourself? Did the update also upgrade the firmware?

Thanks!

Juan

The update is only for PCM2.0 with 3.0 firmware. You should check first to see what you have, hit the home and trip buttons and it will tell you.

On the main CD there is a firmware update to 3 but I don't know from what previous version.

I did the install myself it took hardly any time at all but mine was already on 3.0, I seem to remember that when 3.0 came out it was just a case of running the car and letting it load from the CD, pretty sure my dealer did not do it. its a bit scary as it takes about 45 minutes to complete.

If you are on 3 save the money and do it yourself

Michael,

This is awesome news about the NAV CD's, looking forward to getting the CD's since my entire neighborhood isn't listed but has been around since 2001

Anyway, about Sunset Porsche, probably one of the best places to buy Porsche parts hands down.

I have dealed with Jeff Clark, he's awesome!

I'll get the CD's ordered early next week and report back.

I just did the update on my Cayenne to the new CDs. I already had PCM software version 3.0, so the download was quick.

Fort Wayne, Indiana is now on the map! For the first time, my neighborhood actually showed up on the PCM screen! Fort Wayne wasn't big enough for the last 3-disc set to show any street level detail - it only showed major roads. The new update shows much, much more information. It's excellent!
