Call me crazy, but I've determined that the key is to buy a September build car-- That is the month the german factory workers come back from their August holiday "tan, ready and rested" to build a great car.

The Stuttgart-based company said the decision affected 18,856 Cayennes sold worldwide between Nov. 30, 2006 and Jan. 18.

I dont think that would affect you sam. Don't you have an 05?

It is an 05, just making light of your comment that maybe other issues could be linked to workers tired mood, just for laughs.

That's got to be an error in the reporting about the recall. The sale date shouldn't matter; it's the build date.

"In a statement, Porsche said that there was a possibility that movement by the engine while driving the Cayenne could cause the fuel line to make contact with the engine compartment's cladding, or overlay, that can cause a knocking sound and leave abrasions on the fuel line."

Btw, my knocking is definitely still there and car is an '04 built, purchased in Nov of '05.

Was there a redesign in 2006 that makes the fuel line location in an '06 and later different from the fuel line location in an earlier model?

PRES RELEASE
Fuel line rearranged
Porsche Cayenne
Stuttgart. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is rearranging the fuel line in the engine compartment of 18,856 vehicles of the Cayenne model worldwide.
This affects vehicles which were produced between November 30, 2006 and January 18, 2008.

There is the possibility with these vehicles that the slight movements of the engine when traveling could cause a fuel line to come in contact with the engine compartment cladding. This could cause a knocking sound and abrasion markings could occur on the fuel line itself. Up to now, there have been five known complaints worldwide, but only one instance in which any abrasion markings appeared on the fuel line. In order to avoid any further problems, Porsche is going to change the layout of the fuel line in the vehicles concerned.

Time in the workshop is about 40 minutes. For the customers, who will be advised of this shortly, the procedure is free of charge.
