Default Hotter plugs in my flashed Cayenne Turbo?

I recently took possesion of an 05 CTT which I promptly modified with a new EVOMS intake and Miltec Exhaust and Cat By-Pass. I also flashed with a GIAC flash. Ok, so far so good. I also replaced my plugs (35K miles) with a new set of NGK one step hotter thinking that this would be sustainable with the increased fuel/air provided by the mods.

During the course of plug install, my independent found cracked coils. SURPRISE! I took the car to the dealer and told him of the problem where my car sat all day. When I came back, the dealer said they didnt find an error code (my indy reset it) and it was most likely fuel problem. Of course they were idiots, I saw the cracked coils at my indy. I asked if they test drove it, "No" was the reply. The car was noticiably missing. Anyways, I took the car back and I will have my indy relplace all the coils at my expense because I don't want those idiots touching my car again. (Larson Porsche of Tacoma, WA)

My question is: When the coils are being replaced, should I revert back to standard plugs? Could that be contributing to some of the poor performance? I know its hard to tell when I have cracked coils but I dont to incur the expense of taking it all apart again to replace the plugs if the coils don't completely fix the problem. Help

Thanks for posting that they didn’t pick up any error codes with the cracked coils. I thought I remembered reading that somewhere but I recent note from my dealer had me doubting it.

I don’t know about the hotter plugs causing the cracked coils but can say that I had cracked coils (for who knows how long) in my stock CT and when they were changed (regrettably to 948-602-104-001 and no the newer 948-602-104-003 part number) that performance seemed to be much better at low RPMs.

How much did the new coils cost you?

The coils initiated error codes, but not immediately. I took the car in three days after my indy reset them and had been driving the car gently. No error codes, no warranty work. <--STUPID If they had only drove the car they would have noticed the missfires.

I don't think the hotter plugs caused the cracked coils, they are just bad coils. (Coils cost $26 each and prolly 2 hours @ $85/hr labor) What I want to know is if using hotter plugs in my flashed turbo will cause other performance issues (good or bad) assuming all else is ok.

Thanks for the price on the coils.

Can't answer your question directly on the hotter plugs but I _think_ I remember seeing a post that the newer (I think '06) used different plugs than the earlier ones. You might want to search for stuff from Sharkster (www.sharkwerks.com). He does GIAC upgrades so I’m betting he could point you in the right direction.

I was trying to avoid calling a busy tuner directly but I guess I will try.

If you can’t get an answer out of your tuner…I’d certainly try someone with experience like Sharkwerks. As I said I think he posted something here about it a while back that should be able to dig up with a search.

You could contact Evo since you got your stuff from them, they should know.
Your indy does not know what the hotter plugs would do?

Turns out the answer is no. Do not run hotter plugs in a flashed CTT

The only shop I will let touch my car is MaxRPM in Bremerton. Alex and his team are top notch.

Usually when squeezing a motor for additional power you want to run a colder plug if anything
