MY Turn
Inspected the coils today and all 8 were cracked. Based on the service records they are the originals. Ordered -O7 coils and new plugs from Sunset so I was prepared for the bad news.

The plugs did not appear fouled but the electrodes looked thin and about due for exchange. Did you know that factory CS plugs cannot be gapped?

About a 2.5 hour job to complete, not difficult but a combination of male and female Torx drivers are required.

There is a substantial improvement in seat of the pants performance. Hope the mileage improves as well.

Hi....New here....because my coolant tubes blew this morning....in the process of looking that up, I realized that my 05 Turbo with exactly 40k miles, and which had all 8 coils and plugs replaced a few months out of warranty in 09 with 33k, out of pocket, should still be under the 8 year/80000 CA emissions warranty.

I just sent a nasty email to Porsche NA about reimbursement of the $1100, and making a stink about only realizing it because of the "deferred quality" they imposed on us with the cheap plastic coolant tubes.

I wanted the coils dealt with, but I mentioned that if she wanted to offer good will on the tubes, she could, but that if not, it was ok because I would be dealing with their problems on that issue more fully in the near future.

The coolant just started pouring out on me in a gas station this morning, after just running out to get some smokes, totally unprepared to sit there and wait 2 hours for a ride back home and tow...

And how did PCNA respond?

I actually received my reimbursement check from PCNA today. I had all 8 coils replaced on November 22, 2009. I sent my claim for reimubrsement to PCNA on October 22, 2010 and I received full reimbursement today. It took them a while to own up to this issue, but I'm glad they did. That's the second time they have come to their senses since I owned the Cayenne, the first one being when they decided to support the CD-based navigation system by actually coming out with a set of updated map CDs. Speaking of which... it's probably about time for a new update!

Condition #3 on the notice: "The repair was performed before the date of this letter and vehicle mileage did not exceed 100K miles at the time of replacement."

If the work was done at a dealer, why didn't you present the letter and request they cover it under the extended warranty?

I received the letter but didn't replace coils yet. (As far as I know I have originals installed)

My car has been having the shaking problem with low RPM/Acceleration.

I am scheduled to replace them at the Porsche dealership on Saturday September 17, 2011.

My car is a 2005 Cayenne with close to 48,000 miles on it. I'm still sketched out on the fact if it's free for me or not...

I'm unclear on what success people have had getting bad coils covered under the emissions warranty. Any one have luck with coverage after the bumper-to-bumper ended but before the emissions warranty ended?

I just bought a used '05 CS with 72,400 miles today. (First Porsche!) The car was showing an emissions light before I bought it and when I took it for a pre-purchase inspection at a local porsche-focused independent shop, the mechanic replaced one coil and cleared the light (the prior owner paid). He suggested that the other coils will need to be replaced at some point as they will likely fail too.

My owners manual says the car has a 7 year 80,000 mile emissions warranty. The in service date was 08/2005, so I have 10 months and 7,000 miles of coverage left.

Any suggestions on how to get these replaced under warranty?

Thanks for the help in advance. And thanks for all of the prior posts - reading rennlist was incredibly helpful as I was researching the car!

FYI, new coil packs (aka Pencil Coils) are now up to -09, 948.602.104.09 to be exact.

I just replaced all mine, I thought they were all -05's but (3) were -03's and (5) were -05's. Now they're all -09's.

I don't think it's tied to vehicle warranty it's on the -05 part if it goes wrong
