A TSB related to the replacement of Coils with a new part number has been posted to Renntech.com, contributing users to that board can view the TSB.

In summary if the diagnosis is coils they are directed to replace ALL coils with the new part number.

In my continued effort to contribute to the Rennlist Cayenne forum (instead of being a pain in the *** by always asking newbie questions ), here is my invoice from having my coils (along with a couple other things as you will see) replaced a couple of weeks ago:






As you can also see, the part number for the latest coils is represented as ending in #003. Hopefully this helped

The part numbers FYI...

"Remedial action:
Replace all installed bar ignition modules (Part No. 948.602.104.00 or 948.602.104.01 ) with modified bar ignition modules (Part No. 948.602.104.03).
Only replace bar ignition module if it was diagnosed as faulty."

"On vehicles that are still under warranty, the replacement of all bar ignition modules (coils) with Part No. 948.602.104.00 or 948.602.104.01 with bar ignition modules (coils) with Part No. 948.602.104.03 can be claimed under warranty using the following damage code: Damage Code 2820 12 000"

"On vehicles that are no longer covered by warranty, we also recommend that you replace all bar ignition modules (coils) with Part No. 948.602.104.00 or 948.602.104.01 following consultation with the customer with bar ignition modules (coils) with Part No. 948.602.104.03 in the event of a complaint.

The replacement of bar ignition modules (coils) with Part No. 948.602.104.03 that are diagnosed as faulty can be claimed under warranty."

Not so fast.......

If you carefully read the aforemented PAG statement posted by Loren (thanks Loren), my take is that if the pig is still under warranty, then they will replace the coils with the -03 parts for free as a warranty claim.

If you are naked.......it looks as though they will install (hence using up existing inventory) of the -00 and/or -01 coils, UNLESS after "consulting" with the "customer" (re: victim), they are willing to PAY for the distinction of having the -03 parts installed.

Am I reading it incorrectly?

Hmmm...I read it as if you're not in warranty it's not covered at all.

Either way it's disturbing. I pay a vendor like Porsche for their integration expertise. They clearly know there's an issue and should make good on it in or out of warranty. Any vendor should eat a fault like this in the interest of customer loyalty. This is even truer with the margins that Porsche has.

When you say the TSB applies to ALL Cayennes, what exactly does that mean? All years (I have an 05 S), even one's that don't have a problem (yet)?

If the pi.. oops, the truck is still under warranty, I would take it in and tell them it "idles rough at startup" or something like that. And if it is not under warranty, Larry would you have any thoughts on this??????

Coils: Part Deux

Last week my '06 CS wouldn't start. Engine wouldn't turn over, and the lights on the dash lit up like a Christmas tree. Car flatbedded to dealer.

Dealer couldn't replicate because it started up fine after they took it off the flatbed.

Computer showed a misfire in the 4th cylinder. Dealer inspected the coils and plugs and said they looked fine, but replaced coil anyway. (I had coils replaced previously and dealer confirmed that the ones I got were in line with the current TSB).

So, in the end, the dealer can't explain why there was a misfire.

Any ideas? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

P.S. My 993C2S came to the rescue, so I wasn't left stranded. Dealer then made up for my aggrevation by giving me a Cayman (red/beige) to play with for a couple of days while they looked at my Cayenne.
