Default Coolant Question

Has anyone needed to add coolant to your Cayenne S after some time? Wife saw a low-coolant warning today, which went away. I haven't had chance to check it out yet. We bought the car new a year ago, and have never added coolant.

Yes I have to add coolant on a regular basis. Have 70k been around and around with the dealer on the subject they reafirm no leaks. I can never find one either. I think the car just eats coolant.

I don't think it's eating it, it's mixing and burning it.
It's a sealed system, so in the absense of a (mechanical) leak, there's no other place for it to escape.

i really think it evaporates.
Its not alcho/gycol based and I think it evaporates.
Ive torn down a few cayenne engines and never found any leaks internal or external

Checked the coolant level today, and it was a bit low. Will just top it off and call it a day, althought I too don't understand how it can escape out of a sealed system...

I've had two Cayennes since May '03.... NEVER has my coolant been low (if slightly low "top offed" at dealer service intervals). You have a leak.. it may be so slow that with summer temps. it is evaporating. But right now we've been in the 90's and the engine puts out so much heat our garage is like a furnace... still NO coolant on the floor in 4 summers. You need a diligent service tech. to really inspect the system... 99Firehawk can probably attest to the fact that Cayennes don't go through coolant. right?

I don't think I worded it very well.. I mean to say that I've never gotten a light and I've never seen coolant on the floor... thus the only way my coolant has been "topped off" has been at the dealer for regular maintenance ONLY.. now they may have seen it low (but not low enough for the light) but in a combined nearly 90K.. hadn't been there done that for me

I believe our dealer added a tad over 2 quarts after 3 years, that being last year.

Brad is right, everything is dry and nothing shows up when I get the oil sampled. Dealer told me the systems seem to burp on occasion and the coolant evaporates.

I guess Porsches like to eat their fluids like vitamin supplements

I added about a quart and brought it back to proper level. Will check it again in a week and see what happens. If there is a leak, the level should drop down again fairly soon.

With my turbo I have added coolant about every 20k. Just added some two weeks ago after hitting 60k. Not much about a quart. Make sure to get the Porsche coolant (it is undiluted).
