Do you have an early build '06? When they replace the part, can you check what is the part number of the bad coil? I am extremely curious about coil failure on an '06 car.

Well, most pencil coil designs have reached their limits. I know of no pencil coil producer that really got a grip on these problems. OEM's always design smaller and more powerful coils that doesn't do good on their endurance. Pretty simple. OEM's already starting to move back to older designs with separate pcb's.

Our 2004 CTT had all 8 replaced twice in 4 years and 70K miles.

Our new 08 CTT has its first one replaced this week at 1.2K, but it seems to have a problem with the direct injection (shudder at pickup from low revs in high gears). Anybody else has this problem?

On the other hand, the Sport Button is fantastic.

I think your problem might be the drivetrain. The problem in our car seems to be with the new direct injection system.

Just a heads up... When you have them replaced VERIFY you are getting a P/N that ends in 03. The warehouse was still shipping 00 P/N's as of 2 months ago. Tech's should be double checking and refusing 00's and 01's but who knows.

Sorry for the late join,
i too have a 2006-S but no coil problem yet, but then again my cayenne is barely driven its only got 9,500K on it. is this something that i should be considering getting looked at? or have the dealer check on anytime soon. when have the rest of you started to see this problem?

I've had the "fun time" of educating those guys over at Rockville - they now will replace the coil and if a second goes bad replace the whole set.

Of course I no longer have the Cayenne - but only becuase it won't fit in the garage out in my San Diego house...

Can you have a bad coil if there is no fault code?

Absolutely..

my past experience (with a great dealer/svc. dept) still led to no codes comments from the techs like:
1. did driver put regular unleaded? - car needs premium
2. possible water in system from fueling during heavy rains of late - run several tanks of gas then come back
3. owner states stuttering/low power? what stuttering/low power?

keep complaining.

My saga has been the same
Nice dealer, service dept - but since nothing showed on the computer, "nothing to fix"
Got responses like " Are you driving with 2 feet" and "You need to try a different brand of gas"

Decided to go to another dealer, and they agreed the problem existed, and as of yesterday, plan was to replace the coils.

MadFox- what was your symptoms ? Did it occur on the 04 or 06?

On the BETA! No problems on my Tit.S to date... Primarily, it was hesitation at low rpm and a feeling like it was missing.. mostly in the AM (high humidity) and it was a nagging thing for over 6 months.. got worse with time.. FINALLY, a TSB on the cracked coils and THIS FORUM .. so, I literally printed out the forum comments etc. and took to my dealer.. found all 8 coils were cracked.. and also replaced ALL plugs.

enjoy the purple stuff... welcome to the club.
