Really? You didn't like the MB ML350? They look pretty nice.

I bet she'd like this one. We'll be looking in person very soon. She's starting to get very excited.

Pre '06 ML's are very tippy (that's what she drives now). The new model feels MUCH tighter and more balanced in the turns. it is a whole different car.

Geesh I was thinking of getting my wife a cayenne too-she has a 98 GS300-but after doing much research and listening to ltc I think I will buy her what she NEEDs and not what she wants

a 997GT3RS to go with our 996GT3-- not much for AWD but if you can drift at the track you should be able to drift a 997 RS in the snow.

I have been pretty happy with my p-cars over the years. A couple of blown engines but otherwise nothing to complain about.

Get her a G-Wagon. She would be noticed. Seriously you might want to consider a recent M-class, there down there around your price range. A little funky looking but as far as a road car there alright. I remember they were pretty stable on winter roads. Which was all I cared about at the time.

This reply is now deleted due to the totally embarrassing nature of my question!

Steve, as you well know... the marquee elicits interesting reactions. Each model seems to have its issues and the Cayenne is no different. I opted for an `05 CS last year and so far am very happy with it.

Speaking of marquee mistique, yesterday while driving through a grade school zone at 20 mph, there were two young girls on the sidewalk talking as my wife and I drove slowly by. I could see the head of the one young girl facing us looking at the CS as we passed and was starting to say something while her head was turning toward the car as we passed. I asked my wife (who was looking right at the girls) what she'd said and she laughed and replied... "Oh My Gaud". My wife continued to chuckle and then said "it's amazing the number of people that notice this car and comment about it"

The Cayenne sounds like the perfect car for my lovely wife then. She'd be giving up this XK8:

For an SUV. The Cayenne and the X5 (both used 1-2 years old) and the Jeep are the lead contenders. I can't wait to drive the Cayenne. Counting the minutes.

Man, you crack me up.. this is the longest Cayenne foreplay thread in history... Can't wait to drive it??? I think you mean to say, you can't wait for your wife to drive it and you're hoping that she loves it so you can drive it, too...... re: price range... sure hope you don't have premature SUV-aculation and buy the wrong one.

I'm patiently watching... this could be fun....

Nothing has broken yet...I bought my CS on an impulse and it is so much better as a driver than my ML-320. I think when you drive one through curves; you will be sold.

96C4S--

Thanks a lot for the detailed pictures and review of that Jeep. I'm sure many here are interested in that vehicle.

Seriously dude, you are all over the place. You say you have only seen a Cayenne once (at an auto show a few years ago) and have never driven one. And, you are comparing it to other SUV's-- like a jeep-- which are completely different animals and of a different ilk.

You (and your wife) should go and take a Cayenne out for a spin and see if you even like the ride...and whether it is worth more $$ to you than the Jeep what-ever-it was...or the other things you are looking at.

Otherwise, you are making apples to oranges comparisons that people in this forum probably can't give you any real help with.
