I'm sure ltc knows the mechanics of this, but there is a lockout in the gearbox that prevents shifting out of park and into reverse until you press the brake. Am assuming it's a relatively simple solenoid actuator, but assuming anything about simplicity in a P-car is dangerous. I can clearly hear it (with the radio off) and feel it in the gearshift **** when in Park. Don't think I've ever noticed it when not in Park. Do you you notice it when not in Park?

Only when in park (is this normal?), but I now also feel the reverse clunk in the shift ****. Different-sounding, much louder clunk than the one taken care of with transfer case replacement.

Yes, as sigs pointed out, it's the interlock solenoid.

That is not normal.
I would be tempted to say broken motor mount, but I would have expected it to be in both directions. Easy enough to see if a motor mount has failed and rule it out.

Ok, so I have an excuse for not noticing the sound before ... I blast my music way too loud :-D

Car goes in next weekend. Thanks again, Dorothy, for your help.

i just got a loaded Q7 as a loner when my 2004 TT went in for its yearly service. I was shocked at the size of the Q7. Of course, they need those extra inches to stuff in that hard to get to 3rd row. It's a huge boat as someone said. The controller system is not much easier to use than BMW's. It's so silly to have to operate a radio without simple *****. It's no Porsche by a long shot.

We got a Q7 3.6 Premium for my wife about 5 months ago. Very solid car, absolutely no problems at all. Perfect car for her, lots of room for the baby and dog. I'm jealous of the electical gizmos, and that do work well: camera, sat, bluetooth, etc. I wish I had these on my 04 CTT.

No doubt, I would always prefer to drive the CTT, but the Q7 does work well for her.

You wouldn't happen to have any pictures of the 92 S4 RS2 would you?

Interesting, as the general concensus is that the Audi MMI is much easier to use than BMW iDrive.

Very cool ride! The 20v Turbo has to be one of the best motors ever.
How many miles on the gem?
What do you plan to replace it with, you'll miss it dearly if you only remain with two SUV's

I thought it was equally annoying as BMW's.

I really don't know why they feel the need to overengineer these things. Want the heater to blow more air...can't just turn a ****. You have to click to the right menu option (while looking at the video screen), then click the right choice within the a/c menu, and then set the thing. Ridiculous in my opinion. (At least with the BMW, the dash is a lot cleaner and streamlined.) For some reason, with the Audi, there are STILL buttons and switches all over the Audi Q-7 dash (including a button to pop open the glove box). WTF? They engineer this complex I Drive type system to, I suppose, eliminate buttons, and then they put a button on the dash to open the friggin glove box.

I don't get it.

Ford HD Powerstroke Diesel: There IS no substitute.
It's my bride's daily driver (don't ask, I offered to buy her any car she wanted, she replaced her 2000 Excursion with this 2005 Excursion).
Great tow vehicle, dog hauler, long range cruiser (800 mile range on one tank of diesel when not towing).
