Default SAT button in a 2004 Turbo?

I'm in the market for a Cayenne Turbo and I'm going to look at a 2004 CT this weekend. I checked the VIN # on the renntech forums and it is a 2004 CT. However, the button to the right of the CD button is SAT. In reading old posts, that button should be CDC in a 2004 since SAT was not an option until 2005, right? How can I easily tell if the Nav unit was upgraded to a later 2005/2006 DVD based unit? I'd ask the current owner but he has it on consignment at a local dealer and he is not very prompt at answering any questions... I also don't want him to know that I think it is a valuable upgrade thus justifying a higher price...

THANKS!

Simply ask the dealer to read out the current revision (H/W and S/W) of the PCM installed.
This can be done in 2 ways:
1. The front panel secret button push sequence (not that secret, as it's been posted in rennlist before)
2. Interrogation via PIWIS.
Either one is a 5 minute job.

Thanks LTC but it's on consignment at a NON-Porsche dealer (They won't have access to whatever tool would be needed to read the PCM version)... Are there any visual clues? It's been posted that SAT was not an option in 2004, is that true?

TIA!

It is more dependent on the H/W revision of the PCM, rather than the model year.
Technically, 05 was the introduction of the PCM2.1, although I have heard of a few late 04's with this H/W.
Here is a link describing it somewhat (see page 2):

Here is a link describing how to determine your PCM version:

Best of luck,

P.S.
If you really love this Cayenne.....excuse me a moment, I just threw up in my mouth after typing that phrase.......you could always consider a Tequipment Satellite radio/PCM upgrade package for the Cayenne.

My CS was a late build '04 built a month before the '05s came out. Unfortunately, mine did NOT come with the sat button. Should have waited a month...

I looked at the car this weekend and found out the reason a 2004 CT had a SAT button........ It had the wrong VIN listed and it was actually a 2005!!!

It's in our garage now and I'll post a picture thread later this evening.

Wrong VIN listed from a NON-PORSCHE dealer and yet the VIN still read Cayenne? I find that very odd.

They probably had another Cayenne on the lot or in their inventory computer from an earlier sale and the person doing the listings screwed up. I've seen that a couple times at local independants here in Florida. Usually it goes the other way, like listing a CTT VIN only to find out it's a V6

Congrats on the new ride! I love stories with happy endings (i.e. bringing a Cayenne home).

A round of purple Kool-aid for everyone!

What does your title say, '04 or '05?

It's definitely a 2005. It has a 3/05 build date, an 8/05 in-service date, an 05 VIN, and 3,800 miles. I believe the mix-up occured when the original owner listed the vehicle for consignment with the dealer and gave the dealer all of the info, including VIN, over the phone. I believe the prior owner had previously owned a 2004 CT and took the VIN off of an old insurance card.

Regardless, it's a 2005 and it's ours!!! Bring on the Kool-Aid!!!

Here's a pic. Our 996 in front is listed in the Rennlist Member For Sale section.

May I ask what they were asking for the car?
