I thought I'd share this little DIY project. I got tired of the dull brushed metal exhaust tips. Instead of spending $800 on those Tequipment tips I polished the stock ones. I used a palm sander with 150 and 300 grit sandpaper, then finished with some polishing compound. Maybe some time I'll part with the $800 but believe it or not these turned out pretty nice. The project took less than four hours. Here are some before and after pics.

I had mine done by a metal shop like that a year or so ago. The matte finish always seemed to look like crap and it was driving me nuts. I didnt want to put the money into chroming them because i was thinking of possibly switching to tequipment pipes or something at some point. They look great, im sure you will like them much better now!

Thanks for the kind remarks. Here are answers to your questions:
skl: Nothing is boring about working on either of my Porsches.
JARO: No I won't do yours for $50 but thanks for the offer. I may come back to you if I can't afford a full tank of gas.
pdxjim: Removal and replacement if the tips is trivial. There is a clamp that holds the tips onto the side of the muffler. Use a deep socket to loosen the 15 mm bolt. Once the clamp is loose wiggle the tips back and forth while pulling them toward the outside of the car to get them to slide off the muffler . It takes patience to wiggle them enough times before they slide off. Replacement is a matter of pushing and wiggling them back on and tightening the clamp.
