Hooking up the V1
Hello all,
I want to get the V1 Radar detector, but I have the Non-smoker package, which means there is no electrical outlet in the ashtray!
Do you know how can I hook up this V1 without having to do a permanent install?
I know that there are 2 electrical outlets (beneath the driver seat, and beneath the passenger seat) Nevertheless they look weird, and the socket is too big for a V1 or a phone charger.
Any ideas, on how to get the V1 to work?
Thanks a lot

What is the problem with a hardwire install ? It's a low cost....$50+/-.....The unit should be mounted high up on the widshield for best results.....not low on the dash. The wire runs hidden to just left of rearview and you get benefit of rearview sensitivity. You can unhook unit easily and remove if you wish. It's the most efficient ay to utilize the V!. Good luck.

Agree, run the hardwire around the screen to the drivers side and into the side fuse box, use 42 spare which is switched by the ignition.
I hide the tail behind the center sunvisor (behind the mirror) when not in use

I use the V1 in my truck and I have the cig lighter. But I always use the underneath passenger plug for the detector and it works fine for me. It seems that I use the cig lighter for phone charging. I don't mind the plug in wire coming up out of the footwell. My concern with the hard wire aspect is that it would be stolen sometime.

Hardwire
Go for the hard wire. You can always unclip the connector and take it with you. I have the standard setup with a cig lighter in the ashtray but I use the hardwire option anyway. Just nice to have that silly cord out of the way.
If you're in the Bay Area, you can use my guy to do the install. Very clean job. PM if you want info or pics of the install.

I installed my V1 above the mirror and you can tap into the switched acc wire in the overhead lighting console if equipped, by removing 4 screws rather than running down in the pillar. If needed let me know and I will take the panel apart and get some photos this Sunday.

I didn´t know we could take off the radar, if it was hardwired... I was thinking about getting one when I get the car, but wasn´t going for the hardwire because the police could see it... it´s a very useful "function"..

Is a V1 the best radar system to get? What about Escorts? Who makes the V1 and how much do they cost? Does having a radar in the car attract or upset police?

I mounted the V1 very close to the mirror. I had to turn the mirror all the way away from me to get the shot above. When the mirror is in the normal position, you can't see the wires at all.
This is a shot from underneath. you can see the wire connects to the V1 with an RJ12 then goes over to the base of the mirror and then from there under the headliner. The power is actually connected inside the panel where the homelink, map lights and etc. are mounted.
Let me know if you want more detail!!

The install is neat and I'm guessing the advantage is not having a wire dangle. But what about when you use the stealth indicator? I'm referring to the remote face so the lights on the detector are not seen. Are you guys also hard wired for it also?
