Cayenne Panorama
This might have been discussed already, in that case my apologies. I'm new here and I tried to do a search but I couldn't find much (granted I don't think the Cayennes with the Panorama roof are here in the US yet). But anyway, here goes.
I've got an '03 Range Rover that I intend to trade on a Cayenne this spring. What I'm wondering is if anyone has any first hand knowledge as to how the Panorama roof is on the Cayenne? I had a '99 ML430 with M-B's Skyview top that was great when it was open, but loud as can be with the roof closed. I would naturally assume that there will me some compromise with wind noise with the Cayenne I just am curious as to how much. Many thanks!

The panorama roof is not available here yet as far as I know. If it is anything like the targa roofs used on the 993's or 996's i would say it should be tremendous. The few times I had to drive Targas i was amazed at how little the noise level changed when the roof was open. Other than the additional light that was coming through you could barely tell it was open. Very quiet and wind free. Now whether the Cayenne will be the same way only time will tell.

This option is only now available for 2005 in the US. The ordering code is - 3FU - Panoramic Roof System
At first I was intrigued by it since the X5 has a similar option, but I do not have a first hand experience with driving with one open or closed. I do remember it was about a 4k option. I was considering it becuase I feel the standard moonroof is quite small IMO
This is what it looks like from the inside:
..and from the outside fully open!:
Here is some more information:

Here is a vechicle at my dealer with one that has it if anyone in the US is ready to buy !

Good luck in your quest !!

This is similar to the Targa design and the panorama roof offered by MB. The deflector seems to send the air high enough over the opening to prevent it from entering back in at the rear. Should be a very nice addition. I have to agree with Tim the moonroof is almost useless.

Many thanks to all of you! I was hesitant to spend the money on a brand new Cayenne due to the big depreciation, but that roof might indeed change my mind. Heck, if i end up keeping one at least through the warranty period the overall shouldn't be too bad. Of course, here I am worrying about the Cayennes depreciation, and I bought a Range Rover new...go figure!
Bottom line is, I guess that I'll need to go drive one with the panorama roof. I was so very pleased with the cabin noise, or lack there of, at speed in just a standard moonroofed model that as much as I love the idea of the panorama roof I 'm not sure that I want to deal with a huge increase in wind noise like I had in that ML430 I had a while back.
Thanks again, and I'll let you know what I find out!

I can just imagine this scene...
Oh honey, this Cayenne can really get over a hundred fast and this panoramic roof is great - but what was that whoosh noise?
Oh I think it was little Timmy, he's not back there anymore...
You mean you didn't crack a window????????
And mess my hair???
:-)

It's a lot less noise/wind than a good convert, but there is more noise/wind feel than any other sunroof I've experienced (including a canvas roofed Fuego... but that's another story).
If you're looking for a "top down" experience, it works, plus it does really "open up" the interior - I first swore that the interior layout was different (it's not), so that's a plus.... question is, as always, is it worth it to you? Drive one & decide on your own.
As far as leaks/rattles, the Cayenne's roof is not structural load bearing, but serious offroading might just torque things the wrong way, and I'm sure that that claim for busted glass would be honored under warranty (yeah, right)

Thanks JeffES! I figured the roof would let in some extra wind noise over a regular sunroof, but my experience with this type of roof had me skeptical because the wind noise in that ML was worse than many convertibles that I have been in.
I tried to see one at a local dealer just before the new year, but they didn't have any yet.
