Default Windshield wipers that sound like two angry elephants...

I'm serious thats what they sounded like the first time I turned them on during the heavy rain last Friday in the Northeast.
During my test drive, I was very impreseed with the arm action of the wipers, they looked as if they were going to be the best wipers ever designed!!
During use last week in the pouring rain they skipped across the windshield only near the top of the window and made the worst sound I have ever heard.
My first thought was that there must have been a protective film on them. I instantly remembered the old "rubbing alcohol trick" to revive old wipers. Stopped and picked up some rubbing alcohol and wiped them down but to no avail...problem actually may have gotten worse.
Please tell me I'm not the only one who has heard this? If so any suggestions or old threads on this subject?

Thanks in advance!

I wipe my blades down with rubber protectant. They get kind of lubricated and stop the elephant chatter LOL...I use 303 Aerospace Protectant available at Ace/True Vaue stores. Wipe on, wipe off. Leaves no residue. Great for protecting all plastic and rubber exterior pieces w/no greasy residue like Armoural products..

Guys, just throw some Rain-X on your windshield, you'll never even need your wipers. Seriously.

I see a date on some paperwork as 6/11/04 but how can I be sure of my build date?

I have used Rain-X before when it first came out, but I did not like the smearing effect. Have they fixed this?

My wiper blades did the same thing when I first got the vehicle. I assumed it was from sitting in the hot Texas sun. Anyways my dealer replaced them and haven't had a problem in well over a year. Similar story with our S430. Original blades sucked. Replaced and noise went away.

W505: check & replace wiper blades
Just tell your dealer and you will receive new wiper blades per above.

Thanks for the suggestion! Is there a place where all of these "recalls" are posted?

You can go to renntech.org and get a list of the latest recalls/TSB's.
It was something like 6 pages last time I looked.

Here is a partial listing from previous rennlist posts:

W420 replace microswitch for rear window release
W424 modifying ventillation of main headlights
W501 rear window adjustment
W502 rear lid adjustment
W503 grease bearing surfaces on outter door handle & lock cylinder
W505 check & replace wiper blades
W506 remote control fix
W507 replace air conditioning itioning control
W508 replace spray nozzle for rear window
W513 install cover for window guide on front window
W516 program DME control module (reason is to stop the check engine light from going on)
W517 replace rear window wiper arm
W521 rework clearance cuout on supporting plate
W523 replace both rear lid pneumatic shocks
W525 check & replace rear lid trim strips and logo

This list doesn't include past favorites like the cardan shaft replacement, transfer case replacement, or the W406 towing controller saga.

See this thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/cayenne-955-957-2003-2010/144208-wiper-noise-fix.html

I tried both Rain-X and 303 solutions and no longer have noisy wipers; since I tried both I can't tell you which one worked.

As per the recall, I explained this to my dealer this morning and 10 minutes later they swapped out my blades and Problem solved !! I tested it with the washer fluid and It is amazing.....now I can't wait for it to rain so I can try them out for real!

Hmmm, the only smearing is when you first put it on the glass. Let it dry, wipe off (kinda like when you wax the car) and voila you should not see anything at all...especially when it starts to rain, only the water droplets beading up and flying off your windshield. The faster you go, the less water you have on the glass. Works on the shower too! BTW: this is NOT a paid ad for Rain-X.
