mudman2 - I completely agree with your comment.

If there was a way (perhaps a chip mod) to have the car drive/shift like it does when the PSM is turned off I'd be much happier - I like driving the car with PSM off but would rather not have to give up that feature to enjoy the car more.

I'm at a loss as to what the whole problem really is.

It could be 'wrong gear' related. But I know that I've pulled out and been 'left' in traffic and looked down to see it's in second gear and still hesitating. Don’t know if it's really in second gear or if the display is just 'lying' to me (like it does when you're on a hill in 2nd 'tip' and the display changes to 1st but it doesn't downshift until you apply throttle and start moving...it's almost like they need a pending shift indicator).

Interesting info, but I'm not sure that the Touareg has the same engine management system as the Cayenne's -- particularly the software / firmware.

I have a 2004 TT built in 03/2003, and here's my experience:

Initially, I had the lurching problem, but it was fixed with the DME S/W fix that many have found helpful. After the fix, there was no hesitation from a stop, and there was much smoother acceleration. However, I still had a hesitation problem when I wanted to accelerate from 40MPH on up. I took it in last week, along with a print out of this thread and a couple of others related to this behavior, and discussed with the senior technician. The net result is that he did some S/W update to adapt something to the transmission, along with the latest DME S/W update. Now I know a lot of you had the DME S/W fix and some transmission S/W update done at the same time, and most of you noticed some improvement, so maybe initially they just did the DME thing on mine, and now they did the other thing and all is great. I had the lurching DME fix done about a year ago so what they did last week may be a more recent fix, in other words, the latest and greatest. With this latest fix the hesitation, from crusing speed to faster, declined significantly, and everything seems normal. Now, the transmission downshifts very quickly upon demand, and performance is much improved. Many of you guys that have newer production versions probably already have these updates from the factory. I take mine to Claridges in Fremont, CA for excellent service and attention.

Does anybody with a 2004 Cayenne have a issue when starting cold, putting into DRIVE, and the engine just rev's up, and the transmission doesn't engage for 3-4 seconds?

Let me clarify. Put into DRIVE, give pedal pressure, RPM's go up to 5,000, and no movement of vehicle. Worse when car has sat for 2-3 days.
