Question What should I do???

Im leaving this month for summer vacation for 2 months. The sad news is my car is going to sit in the garage for 2 months. Do you guys think I should disconnect the battery or get the battery charger that porsche sells???

Thx

Disconnect the battery? No alarm system would be working then, and I don't think you would want to leave your babe unprotected.

to use the battery charger you would need an outlet to have it hooked up all the times, is that avilable in your garage?

If not, then a phone call to our beloved "herb chambers" and they will jump-start your car. Cross your fingers that it won't take them a week to do that

Best of luck

I would definitely go with the Porsche battery maintainer. You can get them from Suncoast Porsche for about $60 IIRC or any Porsche dealer parts dept for about $75.
I have 2 of them, one for the RS and one for the Turbo. They are plugged in for 6 months at a time and I've never had a problem.

If 120VAC is a problem during storage, then perhaps a solar battery charger inside on the dash? Even in ambient light, it will supply a trickle current to the battery.

Would I need a power outlet for the battery maintainer????

Yes, you will. The Cord that comes with the battery maintainer is very long, but you could probably use an extension cord if necessary.

I think I might use the solar battery charger. I think finding an outlet in the garage will be a problem. Do you guys think that the solar battery charger will work? since the light in the garage is not very strong.

The solar charger will work if you have some ambient sunlight from outside. Direct exposure to sunlight is ideal. If you're garage is underground as in some apartment complexes, fluorescent light won't work.

Perhaps another possibility would be to merely plug in a 12V battery (the kind used for emergency starting ,etc) into one of the 12V outlets in the tailgate?

Hey Jamy,

So what did you end up doing with your car?

IMO I would leave the car as it is, and once I'm back I'll jump-start it. Plus, are you sure that the battery would die by that time? Maybe not, then you would save yourself all that hassle.

Two months really isn't a very long time. I have more than one Porsche plus a motorhome. I know one of the Porsches sits for at least 6 weeks at a time with no problems. The motorhome has sat for 4 months and started right up. If your battery is OK, I wouldn't worry about it.
