Default Ready to order 2005 Cayenne S

Well I'm new to this whole Porsche world and am really enjoying it. I'm about ready to order my first Porsche. I drove the CS after test driving the Touareg and it does not compare. Planning on ordering the following:
2005 Cayenne S
Jet Black
Havanna/Beige int
Dark Burr wood pkg
Soft look leather seats
Driver seat memory including mirrors
Light comfort package
Front seat heater & steering wheel
PASM
Trailer Hitch
Variable assist power steering
entry and drive
Fire Ext
Compass
Tire Pressure Monitoring Sys
Park assist
Bi-Xenon
PCM (NAV)
Wheel hub colored crest
Moonroof
Roll up sunscreen
18" Cayenne Turbo wheels w/ all season tires
Exterior Package Black (new for 05)

Not sure of price for Exterior Pkg Black or the Light comfort pkg but extrapolating from 2004 prices and including the 2005 base price increase the MSRP=71720, Invoice=62207. Does anyone have any suggestions on what other options I should consider (or do without)? I really wanted the smooth leather but I had to cut somewhere. This will be my every day car for my small business and occasionally will cart my lil 8 month old around. Need to get one asap but the dealers say they don't know what 2005 prices are. If that is the case how do they sell you the car? Do you just go in and say I want 1500 over invoice or 7500 below MSRP for example? What is best way to get a good quote? Unfortunately hubby is leaving it up to me to negotiate. What do folks think is a good deal on an ordered 2005?

Thanks a bunch.

Regarding the price issue, check this recent post:

http://https://rennlist.com/forums/s...hreadid=134172

Seat heaters - why only front, the rear seat passingers would love it too!!
Variable assist power - from what I read and tried, not needed IMO.
Entry and drive - not too useful without the auto start button (need keys anyway) and also see earlier posts about keyless entry.
Fire ext - pick one up from Home Depot for $15.
TPMS - does not work as advertised (personal experience).
Roll up sunscreen - rattle and kids might pull it apart!!
Moonroof - hole in the roof, noisy, will drive you crazy ( test it and see for yourself, before shelling out $1000)

Good luck...my black on black is due to be completed by June 5th

(unfortunately could not wait for '05)

I didn't want the moonroof either, but got it for resale purposes. Personally, I like the variable power assist steering.

I wouldn't get the TPMS either.

madrocko-if you are looking for a good deal, buy an 04 from existing stock. i am not sure what the inventory situation of dealers is on the left coast, but i can tell you that here in nj, it is not unusual for dealers to have 20+ cayennes on the lot. i can tell you that they will definitely give you a better deal on existing inventory. there is a good supply of various options. it would not be unusual to get 5-7k off of these cars. if you order an 05, you can get exactly what you want, but it will most likely cost you more.

Your list looks great.. Variable assist is nice.. and worth the $250.. Entry & Drive is nice as well, I love it, and you wont have the problems with that short range key problem. Great for the ladies to, my girlfriend just keeps a key in her purse and its nice to just touch the door and crank the key and be off. To me the leather is pricey but worth it. I would cut some of the tire pressure monitoring, colored crest, and roll up shades and get leather, since you spend most of your time in the car and not out of it, why not enjoy a nice look and feel As far as negotiating your on the right track, tell the dealer what your willing to pay over invoice. On a ordered car like that in the bay area it might be tuff. My dealer in Fresno can order you one for $1k-$1500 over invoice. Let me know if you need his info..

Sorry, but I disagree with 1988 Carrera, who has not yet has his car delivered...

The TPMS works VERY well in my CT, and I'm glad I got it. Was recently on a 1500 mile road trip, hit something (a piece of lumber?) in the road at around 75 mph and immediately checked my tire pressure to make sure I hadn't lost any air. Immediate feedback. No air lost, was quite comforting.

The moon roof is NOT noisy at all, works smoothly, and is a very nice addition to the vehicle. Will help with resale, as well.

The roll-up sun screens do NOT rattle, and my little six-year old loves them. They will help tone down the harsh sunlight that will otherwise irritate your little one. A modestly priced and worthwhile option, IMHO.

I agree that the fire extinguisher is overpriced. Mine is sitting in the garage anyway, since I needed the under-seat space for my MP3 player!

Best of luck with your purchase,

Jeff

Hey thanks everyone for the feedback. Kevin M. I would definitely like information on your dealer in Fresno. I just sent out a RFQ to a local dealer so we'll see what they come back with. I did look at in stock 2004's but none of them have PASM...I read/heard this is an impt feature to have for comfort, handling, performance, resale etc. I'm going to keep the roll-up sunscreen as I use those cheap ones now where everytime I lower the back windows they pop out and the little suction cups never stick. In summer sunny CA impt to keep those rays off the little one. Re the TPMS, I am getting this because after reading about the SUV rollovers caused by bad tire pressure it might just give me piece of mind. I hope it works but if not I guess I waste 500 bucks. Re the fire ext. does Porsche have a special one for the car or does it look like any fire ext you can buy from home depot but they mark it up 5x? I hardly ever have anyone in my back seat but maybe I'll consider heating the back seats...need to go figure how much more $. Re moonroof, heard that difficult to resale and very rarely ordered w/o one, also have to put down a larger dep as dealer feels can't sell it. Really looking forward to the entry & drive feature...many times have baby in arms and would just like to be able to open back door without fumbling with keys. Sooo the big question then is do I plunk down another 3k for the smooth leather? My friend who has the stone/steel grey smooth lthr says he likes his but looking at the havanna/beige interior he feels the reg lthr looks fine...but again I might still consider it. Does anyone know what leather is easier to clean?

I ordered mine because I wanted PASM and smooth leather. My dealer could only find one anywhere near here with those two things, but it had a bunch of options that I didn't really want. Anyway, I think the smooth leather looks much better than the grainy stuff that comes standard. I've seen all the interior colors and I don't like regular interior on any of them. JMO.

And is the Park Assist a must? That'd be a good way to shave a grand off the price.

The Park Assist is a must for me because I do not have a garage (separate 3 car garage was converted to a cottage by previous owners) and our driveway is really long. Currently when I'm backing up I worry when I can see my boxer in my sight so I get out of the car to make sure he isn't behind me. Also when baby starts walking he could end up behind car as well so for me Park Assist is a must. Speaking about lack of garage...do you all think I should get a cover, if so, any recommendations? I have room on my property. Thanks.

Sounds like a highly optioned car : ). The entry/drive thing(had a loaner with one) -my only complaint is if you lock the car with the remote leave car right away because it'll unlock if you are close proximity. Park assist-maybe your the worst parker but what's to prevent the other parker from banging your car. Compass/fire extinguisher-I don't think it's necessary especially one fire extinguisher can be bought cheaper and two if you engine is in flames and are you ready to open the hood and risk getting burned and the compass-the navigation is more helpful then telling you what's north/south. The good options I think are PASM/Comfort Package/Bi-Xenon/Heated seats+steering wheel(to some or most love this but had heated seats on my previous ML320-never used it)/Vari-assist steering-nice steering imput which woulda liked in my 996/trailer tow package/Moon roof-for resale only IMO-only time use it is tilting backside for air/leather options-personal preference. One thing is also didn't see you have 6 cd changer there as an option and collapsible tire. Regards and good luck. Mike

OK here's an aesthetic question. Car will be Jet Black with the Ext Black Pkg (the aluminum on ext is black) so car will look all black. Should I order the wheel hub colored crest or keep the black and white one that comes standard?

996FLT6-i believe the collapsible tire comes standard with 05CS and I don't care for the 6 CD changer especially since it in the back. Good point about fire ext...have never used one and hope never to but I will probably just keep one in car from home depot.
