I seem to recall from previous threads the cost is betwen $1000 and $1500 parts and labor. Much more expensive than the factory option.

Your correct Lewis I have seen 1400-2100 dealer installed prices.
I am going after market
Hitch = $141 delivered
Labor =My Sweat
Dealer = Electrical/electronics/programming = $400 quoted
Optional brake controller - $105

1) Which hitch did you go with? The only one I can seem to find is this one , but I am not 100% sure it will fit. I have seen the Porsche hitch online at Neillo Porsche for $937.
2) Which brake controller did you get?
3) What "Electrical/electronics/programming" is required by the dealer? Is this to add the 4 pin adapter in the front for the brake controller and the wiring for a 7-pin Pollack plug in the back (I think it's 7 pin...)?

The vehicle needs to be informed of the presence of the new electronic light control module. The PST2 is used to communicate with the vehicle to setup and enable this module.
The factory components do not include the Pollak 7-pin 11-893 socket, http://www.pollakaftermarket.com/images/u.jpg and http://www.pollakaftermarket.com/ima...ect/11-893.jpg or the brake controller 4-pin interface connector, shown in my 2/21/04 post in this topic: https://rennlist.com/forums/attachme...postid=1076551

as said the Porsche hitch is 900 cost to the dealer, must be solid gold.
I ordered the Curt hitch today from drophitch.com. Its the Treg one which Curt are qualifying for the Cayenne this week. I have not ordered the brake controller yet but that's the budget".
I was going to do the rest but I don't think time will allow.

It seems strange that Porsche would not have included the 7 pin connectors, as they are standard towing fare on most US trucks (Excusions, etc.)

I have a touareg and have hitched it to a 20"enclosed trailer and there seems to be a lot of "drop" when the jack is jacked up. I have to put the car in and see if I can get it balanced properly. The finished weight should be under 7000 lbs.
What experience does anyone have towing with the Cayenne?
Thanks, Mike

Problems are encountered with live in trailers, re: stabilizers. There is a hugh difference of opinion between Euro opinions & US opinions on that subject.
Check out www.vwvortex.com, the threads that are more comprehensive there (this board doesn't cover it as well).
