Here's an ear training exercise I made for identifying piston slap. I used the car from the BAT auction.

Just like Domenica Niehoff, slapping away as only a proper German Dominatrix can do

Hear mostly background noise, not very helpful.

I'm tempted to post some sound from my 2008 CTT but I'm afraid about what I'll get for a diagnosis. I'm not sure that my hearing is as in tune to pick up on the early-stage auditory symptoms, when they're present.

I still say the bigger mystery here is that high bid. That high bidder has an interesting bid history as well.

BaT loves the dreamers and virtual tire kickers. There's one bidder who I see frequently bid and comment on auctions who has $12million in total bids, with one win. Always bids high, but obviously below the eventual selling price, on various Porsche, Ferrari, and other collectible makes/models. I suspect that these bidders are a boon for the BaT model.

Huh. Well, yeah, there is a lot of white noise that I couldn't get out just with crude filtering. But ignore the white noise and focus on the the sole periodic noise in the audio. It's around 300 BPM. That's the piston slap.

I also just scanned through the high bidders history a few minutes ago.
42 past bids and it looks like someone hoping to catch a deal. His bids are often around 50% of what the vehicle ends up selling for.
I wonder if he's thinking this Cayenne is worth $60,000+? The funny part is he put his bid in after the knocking sound was brought up in the comment section.
I have a feeling he's finally going to win a BaT auction.

The most recent comment on the auction is from someone alleging to have been the technician who performed the inspection when it passed through its most recent dealer before heading to auction. Let's see if the current dealer flipping the vehicle responds.

The bids make no sense, given that for many thousands less a great example with a thorough PPI can be found (and without the BaT fees).

Current high bidder may be CJ Wilson, so overpaying may not be an issue.

Massive props to the technician from the Toyota dealership in Tennessee who commented on the auction site for spending his time to let people know about an undisclosed issue with the car. I also like the fact that he admitted that he wasn't an expert on these cars and that he was just relaying the facts as he knew them. I'd let this guy work on my car just based on his one comment.

Two CTTS's just appeared in SLC, one with 72k miles for 22. Salvage title, but the other is 10 cheaper though 30k more miles. Should tell him to try BaT :-)

Looks like the buyer is ex pro BB player CJ Wilson who is also heavily involved in Racing. Proof that what mere mortals like us place on the value of the dollar is nothing to others. This was likely pocket change for this gentleman to obtain a fine example of a Cayenne. With an arsenal of mechanics, machinist and auto professionals begging to hold his left nut, fixing the engine wont be an issue. It's chump's change (that's us) for what he want's.
I've been watching the BAT Cayenne overlander and Turbo auctions for a while and each time I am reminded that for some, money is irrelevant.
After I claim the spot for "quickest, fastest, and most powerful Cayenne in the world" I will be listing my 2006 Turbo on BAT for a measly $150,000. I'l probably take 20k of that to build an overlander that will sell for $50-75k, rinse and repeat. I can't wait to see the thread that ensues here
