Default Bonnet catch

Hi,

I have a 2003 Cayenne S and in the last few days my bonnet has popped the catch at random times and the warning light has come on. Close it properly and it will pop again at some point. Is there any remedy for this?
Is the latch mechanism just plain worn and it needs replacing or can it be adjusted?
If it's replacement time, what needs to come off the front of the car to get at everything?

Cheers,
Nick

It's most likely the bowden cable corroded, had the exact same problem on my SO's 08.

Default Bowden cable

Wow..........thanks Lupo.
Didn't even give the cable a thought as usually they just break if they are that bad.
Presumably you replaced it. Was it a difficult exercise or straightforward?
Any hints on the best way to replace it?

I didn't do it personally but I presume my indy did replace it since it works just fine now.
I'm on vacation and he's too so I can ask in about 10 days.

No problem. I have ordered both the cable and lock mechanism just to be on the safe side..............might as well replace both "while i'm in there".

The lock is bulletproof, I'd skip it.

That "while in there" line cost me at least $500k over the years (when I think of cars, bikes, atvs, house ...) so I started the IT approach lately: if it works, don't **** with it.

So true...clutch job on a high mile 993, $3000. While your in there, $7000. The hope that you’ll never have to drop the motor again...um, priceless.

I would prefer to leave the actuator out of the equation, however it appears that the headlights have to come off as well as the whole front bumper to get at/replace the cable.
Usual Porsche thing..........spend a couple of hours removing parts and 2 minutes replacing the faulty part, then another 2 hours putting it back together.
I don't want to put it all back together and 3 months later have a problem with the actuator.
