Went to park car and changed lever from D -R.
gear box got stuck in N for a brief moment and then transfered into low 4.

Reference your manual, but I think you have to back up in reverse some distance as part of the process of disengaging 4-Low.

Maybe if he's got a Ford Explorer from the 90's, backing up would help!

You need to be in neutral, and pretty much stopped with your foot on the brake to engage or disengage the low-range via the dash switch. Make sure you're satisfying those requirements. If so, something having to do with the engagement motor and/or its wiring has a problem.

When I was buying my 957 TTS and rode with the Porsche dealership Tech during the PPI, he tested the low range mode and backed up after changing out of low Range before proceeding forward in normal mode. Do with that info what you'd like, but maybe its extra insurance that nothing was binding and stuck in low range or maybe it's completely unnecessary - I don't know.

Yes, there is no need to back up. Manual Trans 955/957's have 3 conditions (stopped, Neutral, foot on brake) and Tiptronic S models have 2 conditions (below certain limit speed - 9mph to turn on off-road mode, 19mph to turn off - and in Neutral) in order to shift in or out of the Off-Road mode with reduction. The Tiptronic shift lever is blocked in N during the shifting procedure.
