Thanks all - I also found the DIY thread here on the site and a nice video about the battery replacement here:

Having some other electrical gremlins - brake lights have gone out, headlamps are random on and off, dip beam warning, left corner light warning, etc. Is there a good 'electrical whisperer' in the SF Bay area that knows these things (CTTs) and their electrical issues inside and out?

Sounds like the symptoms of corrosion of the wiring splices under the carpet. Easy to fix, need someone handy with a soldering iron and marine grade sealing shrink tubing.
