Well...

Unfortunately, that is a real possibility.

If it's not ticking, then it will likely last more than 100 feet, but the cylinder scoring is a reality.

However, it seems like it happens before 100k miles in most cases. And it seems like 09/10 aren't seeing it.
Maybe.

But nobody really knows for sure.

As was suggested, aftermarket warranties are usually not worth it.
Read the fine print and see what they do and don't cover, deductibles and lifetime limits.
Then take the money and put it in a 'maintenance fund'.

Buy the car at the top of a hill. In the worst case it'll still roll that far .

spend a bit more prior to purchase and get a reputable shop to ppi the car as well as bore scope the cylinders. That should give you plenty of piece of mind
