Default 295/35 21 V 255/55 18 - Ride Quality

Hey

Picked up a 2007 Cayenne S V8 today and very happy, although the 21" rims have a lot of gutter rash.. think they drove by brail.

Looking at going back to the standard 18" wheels, looking at 255/55 18" used OEM rims. Will this improve ride quality as find it a but harsh on our poor roads in Brisbane.

Cheers
Steve

Make sure an 18" wheel will clear your brakes before deciding to do that. Also, depending on what tires you have and how old they are can also impact the harshness of ride as some tires have stiffer sidewalls than others and if they're a few years old, the rubber may have become less flexible too.

Thanks, I have got a set a 18" genuine Porsche Cayenne rims off a 2007 that are the same model. So can't see this as an issue.

The rubber on the 21" wheels look pretty recent so don't think this is the issue.

Cheers,
Steve

I run 20" all-seasons and 19" winters on my GTS (as 19" is the smallest that'll go over the red calipers on the front). There's not a big difference in normal ride quality between the 20 and 19. It's not appreciably 'softer' but the winter rubber compound on the 19's definitely offers less cornering stability/traction when the temperature warms up. I find the shift from 20 to 19 to be visually similar enough to not be very noticeable. Granted, I'm going from all-black 20" RS Spyders to satin platinum Sport Classic rims. The 20's don't look 'that large' since they're pretty close to the tire rubber black, and the 19's with their wide spokes look pretty 'big'.

I'd think the shift from 21 to 18 would be much more visually noticeable. I'd likewise expect the ride to change considerably. Both from a road comfort perspective, as well as cornering. It might be worth looking for pictures of other Cayennes with your body color and rim styles.
