Mikeymikey--that video you uploaded is the white rod that I disconnected.

After taking out the motor, I lubricated as suggested in the thread on another forum (thanks Rod).
Now, I am noticing the opposite behavior of the fresh air flap. When the car is turned off, should the white rod be pushed all the way towards the firewall so that the flap is open? This mean that when car is turned on, the flap is closed. I think that's correct but opposite of what happened before. Looks like someone tinkered with it before and the for sure sign is all the bolt were non-metric.
