Porsche USA Nov sales

Let's see, that's 11,219 Cayennes sold in the first 8.5 months. That comes out to an average of 1,320 Cayennes per month (which also happens to be exactly what was sold this month)
You take that number out over a 12 month period, and that projects out to 15,840 unit sold for the first year. With Porsche projecting sending about 17,000 Cayennes here for the first year, that would leave about 1,160 cars in inventory at the end of the 12 month period. At the current selling pace, that would be less than a 30 supply of vehicles on hand. This would explain and possibly substantiate the rumors that I have been hearing that the discounts at a lot of dealers are drying up considerably compared to 4 months ago.

Karl,
Also keep in mind the effect on the whole demand picture of the imminent addition of the V6. A $43K Porsche truck could really throw all these numbers out of whack. And that could maintain discount pressure on the higher end S/TT vehicles. It'll be fascinating to look at all of this this time in '04. Amazing that Porsche has gone from 0% trucks on 20,000 unit volume a year ago to 44% trucks on 26,000 units now.

Wow. Porsche selling about as many Cayennes than Boxsters and 911's combined. It really is turning out to be the savior of company. I can remember back to our local PCA meeting in 02 when we were laughing at the idea....

Regarding the 911, the update coming for the 2005 MY will bring sales back up. But wait for the 2007-2008 911 it will have a flat eight engine. while i dont like idea of a super slow Porsche cayenne v6, it will at least increase sales.

Actually from a sports car perspective those figures in the USA are quite scary. However in Europe 911 sales are up slightly but the Boxster has also taken a hammering. It is interesting to see the AWD versions of the 911 taking a hit. Especially at winter time.

Here's some scary math.
The Cayenne accounts for 56% Market Share Swing in 2003!
Huh?
Subtract out Cayenne sales from total Porsche sales and you are left with 14,400 Porsches sold to date instead of 25,619.
Compare that 14,400 to last year's 19,979 and you get exactly 28% DROP IN SALES for Porsche overall without the Cayenne.
Add in the Cayenne sales and you get a 28% INCREASE in total Porsche sales YTD.
28+28 means that the Cayenne's sales numbers account for a 56% market share "swing" taking Porsche from -28% to +28% sales!
WOW! Someone said Porsche was a truck company that isn't far from the truth, not only did the Cayenne outsell the 911, but it is responsible for keeping Porsche in the black!

Numbers explain the cayenne
Once you look at the numbers, you certainly see that as pointed above Porsche would have had a very tough year if there was no Cayenne. From an economic standpoint it was definitely a very good decision by the company to diversify, it is greatly helping them to weather tough times in their niche market. Also there might be more on the way to diversification.
