I've been on the hunt for a donor for a Spec Boxster for about 4 months and not much comes up for sale on Rennlist. Is it it because it's not an 'enthusiast' type of car? Lots of them out there but more of an ebay/craigstist/autotrader item. Even the 986forum doesn't get many for sale posts. Am I missing something?

Just in case . . . I'm looking for a Silver, Black Interior. <100,000 miles. Preferably with IMS already addressed.

You're not missing anything. A good car is where you find it. You just have to look everywhere you mentioned and keep looking until you find what you are looking for.

Default How much are you looking to spend?

I know of a '00 SY base in Los Angeles area (It is not my car). The price is $9K. No upgrades. 90K miles. Some cosmetic issues, none that would affect your "spec" Boxster issue. Of interest to you?

Spec Box has to be 96-99

To OP I looked at a good prospect in O.C. CA craigslist. Dark Blue engine removed, comes with a salvage engine also.

Thanks for leads but I'm in the midwest and want to avoid the shipping costs but California is loaded with Boxsters. Also appears that the Cali abudance drives the prices down. Hard to tell how quickly they move but the 986 boxsters seem to sit a long time if they are over $10K. It appears the dealers will go with a price over 10K so they can reduce it to 10K and you feel like you get a good deal. Anyone have wholesale price on these cars?

The reason Porsche quit displaying @ Cobo Hall International Auto Show & therefore giving up the best spot was how few vehicles they sell in the area.

This might be interesting:

In my experience a Boxster with an issue often sells for way below asking price if the seller is serious about selling.
Really it is all about getting an expert evaluation of the future lifespan of the engine. Almost everything else is comparatively a mere detail ! So as I always suggest, first find the best water-cooled P-car Indie ,then find the car.The other way round can get expensive in a real hurry.

Schnell: Wrong year, wrong transmission, wrong engine.

Right idea.

I like the notion of find the mechanic first. Served me well.

I was able to pick up my 98 with 100K for less than 8K here in Oklahoma. There is a Maroon one I believe in Tulsa for around 7500. If you find one and need help getting it shipped send me a PM. I am actually a car transport broker and can give you a quote and handle getting it shipped to you if you need too. As you know it is a better time to buy a convertible right now then in a few months when it warms up.

If you want a cheap Boxster, Craigslist is the place to look.
