I'm considering picking one up as an around town/ autocross car. Anyone know if they all have ABS brakes and a Limited Slip Diff?
Thanks
We've owned a 2000 Boxster S since 2004, with 40K miles when we bought it. On its 2nd motor, but the car was tracked very heavily; the first year or so my wife and I shared it at events. 1st motor made it around 115K pretty hard miles.
AFAIK, all Boxsters will have ABS brakes. I believe with introduction of Boxster S in 2000, Traction Control (TC) was an available option. But TC only tries to "act" like an LSD by using the ABS braking system to apply brakes on a spinning rear wheel. So not a true LSD; car actually slows down when TC kicks in. We have TC on our car, though often turned off at the track. Later versions evolved to true/better stability management systems, such as PSM, and PASM, which control the car's dynamics at all 4 corners via brakes, shocks, etc. I don't believe that Boxsters ever had a true, mechanical LSD from the factory, unless possibly some of the most recent offerings.

Reason: Added PSM
Isn't the options sticker still on the underside of the frunk? It tells if PSM came with the car as an option or not (you have to do a search to decode the numbers).
Now, while LSD is unquestionably a good thing for an autocross car, it will immediately put you in, i believe, Modified if not Improved - and thus up against much tougher competition.

Just to be clear to any readers of this thread, PASM is adjustable suspension, not available until 987/997. PSM is the Stability Management that replaced Traction Control, I believe in 2003MY. 2003s definitely have it (optionally), not sure if 2002's had it before the minor refresh for 03. 987s all have PSM standard, but PASM is optional.
As to true LSDs, they were not even optional until MY 2009, the same time the 9A1 motor replaced the M97 motor.

This was discussed at our Club's Instructor refresher class last weekend. TC was the original variant, using the ABS system to control the spinning wheel at the rear only. PSM was next, using ABS system to control braking at all 4 corners; to control rear wheel tire spin as well as front braking to control the car's handling. PASM was next which added individual shock absorber control, to further help with handling intervention. At some point in all this, eThrottle was introduced, which also brings throttle reduction into the intervention formula. Pretty sure was part of PSM, but not sure about TC.
