Default Engine swap

So I have a 99 Boxster with a blown engine, it threw a sleeve and boom! Engine is now toast.
Need a new engine and am thinking to go bigger. Searching the forums has shown that my only real option without going totally mental is a pre 2002 3.4L 996 engine. Rather not go to another 2.5L. Any suggestions, advice?
Do I need to get anything special or different to make the swap?
Is there any other engine swap options?
What should an engine cost? Prices seem to be across the board.

I will of course document everything and there will be many pics to follow, and of course thanks in advance.

I would go 3.2L Boxster S 2000-2002. EBay has a few listed now and they are quite plentiful. Easy swap. Call Jake Raby http://www.flat6innovations.com to see what he has. His stuff is not cheap but you get what you pay for.

Your 99 is a non-egas and a 5.2.2 DME -- so that may restrict some possibilities
without jumping in a little deeper.

Audi 4.2L V8 will be going into a 5 speed Boxter when I find a good candidate.. It fits and does not have the ill-designed Lokasil sleeves. I see someone removed my V8 swap post looking for a blown Boxster 5 speed. I guess the truth hurts to much or you are simply not allowed to own an opinion here.

sounds like an extraodinary project. better still since your bugwagon purists won't ever accept anything less than a German motor. gotta confess a natural preference of an Audi engine over American muscle if nothing more than to avoid the inconvenience of all the dirty looks, hatred and innuendo that would be sure to follow popping the cork (to reveal the workhorse/blasphemy inside). but with this Audi engine half the people will think it was Ferdinand-Alexander's nephew himself who designed it. win. do the motors command outlandish $$$$ ? i realize it's impractical to design 3 different kits but what about the (1994 and up) Lexus or Toyota SUV V8s ?

I am thinking I will stick to a porsche engine, but all the info I have found is leading me to a 99-01 3.4L
Now the determination is what other parts do I need that are gonna need replacing due to the change in displacement. So far all I have found out is a longer cable driven throttle body from a 996 as well. Anything else?

I am in process of purchasing a 99 boxster which is powered by a 99 spec crate motor from porsche. The original owner stuck with 99 specs due to simplicity of non egas, DME, etc. Car was built by chris musante. www.musantemotorsports.com

Where would I get a crate motor from? Any leads on where to get a replacement engine in general? The current motor is toast, possibly repairable but I want to replace it. May stick with a 2.5 if I can find one.

The one I am buying came from porsche. It was swapped about 5 years ago. I think any shop can get one. No idea what it would cost now. I would find a good indy shop and ask them to spec it out for you. I know there were some adjustments needed to mount the motor as well as the hoses/cables adaptions. I googled boxster engine swap and found a bunch of good info on the build and whats involved. There is a bunch of stuff on Pelican.

If you want to check on a crate motor -- Sunset or SunCoast are most likely your cheapest sources.

But they will probably still be pretty darn expensive.

If you run a 3.4 -- you either have to lower it an inch or swap the 2.5L intake
and you'll also need to swap the wiring harness.

Avoid the 99 3.4's as the scuttle butt is that they have more than their share of
cylinder liner/block and head issues.

3.4 swap is pretty easy
Just done it myself
No experience with cars whatsoever
Dropping the engine is really poor solution
Got mine on stock mounts with stock intake manifold
Gt 101 projects 4 your Boxster
It's a good guide for most part
Look on Craig's for engine
Got mine for 5500$ with 25k
Search on 986forum.com for answers

Good luck

A crate motor from porsche will be built with any updates know at the time. As far as mine is concerned, it was built as a 99 spec motor but built in 2007. So the cylinder/block issues are not...

So far all I can seem to find is a 145k motor for 5,000. I may have to wait a while.
Anyone have prices or leads on rebuild or crate motors? I am still looking around.

Where did you find your 3.4 for the conversion? I am having no luck.
