I really think the 987 market is where this unit will make the most difference. Obviously, 986 drivers will buy it too, but it costs a LOT more to replace the IMS bearing on a 987. Even if you do the work yourself, it will take a lot more valuable time. I don't think I would have ever bought a 987 without something like this. Now, who knows :-) Just as an aside question, is there an optional handheld indicator unit that would allow a quick installation and test as a part of a PPI?

Some do, some don't, but I don't think there's any way to know for sure without pulling the trans and flywheel to inspect the nut. As for 987 IMS problems, I'm willing to pull the engine and tear it down, but not just for a preemptive bearing replacement like I did with my 986. The bearing I took out of my '02 was pretty much perfect. I'm glad I did it, but I wouldn't want to go through that hassle on a 987 unless it really needed to be done. Hence, the importance of the IMSG.
