My impression is that the MY05 987 has the single row bearing , which makes bearing replacement possible without engine teardown .... Is this correct ????

Now, who knows :-) Just as an aside question, is there an optional handheld indicator unit that would allow a quick installation and test as a part of a PPI?
Doesn't the 2005 987 have the IMSB that is serviceable without a tear down?

Some do, some don't, but I don't think there's any way to know for sure without pulling the trans and flywheel to inspect the nut. As for 987 IMS problems, I'm willing to pull the engine and tear it down, but not just for a preemptive bearing replacement like I did with my 986. The bearing I took out of my '02 was pretty much perfect. I'm glad I did it, but I wouldn't want to go through that hassle on a 987 unless it really needed to be done. Hence, the importance of the IMSG.
