Default 2002 S w/blown motor: On the road!

Folks, I have an opportunity to get a 2002 Boxster S (tip) with a blown motor for a good price (in Canada). I just need to source a used, new or rebuilt motor. The motor ran real low on oil and now smokes nicely ...

Question is is what is the price ranges I should be looking at in the States as the price up here would be a bit higher (much). Friends shop can do the swap for me no problem (indi p-car). Any leads would be appriciated; don't have the car just yet as it just came in and have not discussed price with the owner.

Thanks,

EDIT: Got it ... motor being rebuilt ...

Mike ... thanks. Friend owns HPCARS ... so labour is not too bad ...

Just need to source a replacement or rebuild. Dealer wants about $12 to $14K just for the crated motor!

Tell them to stick it. Check around on eBay. There are known wreck yards that sell engines on their often.

Here is a link to one in the San Francisco area. Looks like a 2.7 L.

Hey Jaak, you too are lurking in the Boxster forum
Check out this add from a guy in Halifax parting out a Boxster S. Worth a phone call for the engine...

Have you considered buying a wrecked car? A local salvage yard has a wrecked, complete '00 S for sale for $6000.

Yup ... looking at getting rid of the 951 (may have a buyer) and upgrading to a 02 S. I can get the S for a good price.

No ya don't, you need a 3.4 or maybe even a 3.6L if you're ambitious, it's just begging for the big engine Porsche should have offered in the first place!

Jaak, talk to Domenic or Courtney @ EU Autowerks, they have done several conversion. From what they told me, it's more than just swap the engine and drive...

Kind of thought about it; know it's not a straight swap.

Halifax has sold his motor ...
