Default Thinking of buying a 98 Boxster

Hey guys,

Came across a 98 Boxster 5spd Silver/Black 60k miles, in excellent condition an 1 hour from my house. The guy is asking 8.5k because it has a salvage title on some theft recovery from the PO. I was thinking of offering him 7.5k.
What is your opinion on buying a car that has a salvage title.? I've been seeing similiar boxster with clear titles go for between 10-12k, so i figured this is priced right, The car is in excellent shape, but I will bring it in for a PPI.
Thanks.

he may not get too many offers, so I would offer 6k as long as the car looks to be in good shape

7.5k sounds more than fair to me, especially with the mileage. I would think there would be plenty of people interested in it at that price point even with the salvage title assuming the car has not been wrecked or extensively repaired.

At 7k - who cares about the salvege title as long as the theft recovery really is the only issue.
Grab it, enjoy it, dont worry about resale value granted you are keeping it.
It once again proves you can get amazing deals this days...

unless you not willing to spend more, I don't see a need to buy Boxster with a salvage title. This is the best time to be buying Porsches period. No need to look for the apples on the floor.

+ 1 If the car is in good shape and running order and it has not been wrecked, 7.5k is a good price

I guess the other question is how handy are you or how well connected are you to a good p-car mechanic. Lord only knows what funky things have gone on with this car.

I think right now, you should be super picky. There seems to be tons of excess inventory around.

100% agree about the PPI and not looking for apples on the floor. There is some saying that the most expensive Porsche you'll ever own is the cheapest one you buy. Just because you can get one for practically nothing doesn't mean that it will cost you nothing to repair/maintain.

If you are very handy and/or have a knowledgeable Porsche mechanic, that will surely help, but you need to make sure that you can afford to repair the car if something should break or else you will spend your time worrying rather than enjoying it.
