The 964 guys could answer this better than over here, but I can tell you the 964 will require more maintenance than a Boxster motor, but it should be very durable. If it's in good shape at 140k, it should go for a while longer.

FYI the infamous oil leaks were mostly on the '89, '90, and early '91 models because Porsche didn't put gaskets between the heads and the cylinders until late '91. However, that "fault" will usually show up before 100k miles. I think they got it pretty well worked out by '93.

Rennlist has a great 964 community...drop on over to that board for a little more research! (I do all the time! )

I just hit 90000 on my 98 2.5 and it's every bit as much fun now as it was when I got it. I see quite a few boxsters come through our shop, and it seems the except for the crappy rear windows and the occasional RMS leak, they are very little trouble! Like someone on in this thread said. They need to be driven! In fact the more you drive thenm the longer they last!

ok I'm done now I'm going home!

I asked about this before I bought mine. Where I work we have a Munich office, and we have lot of German engineers that come work in the US occasionally. I have been told by these guys that you see 20+ year old daily driver Porsches in Germany all the time...and they drive them all year round too. If you maintain them, they'll run and run and run.

The only reason I don't drive mine all year round is the salt and calcium they sop the roads down with here in the northeast. She rests in the winter, but we play hard the rest of the year.
