The boxster is such a chic car it hurts. other notible examples are the TT (particularly convertable), the mustang convertable (particularly the 6 cylinder), the VW beetle (new one), and anything else with good curves and style.

Wow did I have fun reading this thread! This is my first visit to the Boxter board, and I got exactly what I was looking for. Now, I for one dont understand the boxter. The car it replaced (968) was a all around better car...In EVERY catagory. Does this make sense? Not to me. I think one expearince I had with a boxter owner summed it up the best. At a local DO-IT-YOURSELF carwash I parked next to a guy drying off his boxter S (with my 944 Turbo). We start talking and he proceeds to tell me he just traded in his regular Boxter for the "S" because it "didnt have enough *****" His words. Not that this is relivant, but he was obviously GAY. And he still thinks the Boxter S does not have enough power. My car was modified, and he didnt know how the 944 Turbo performed and wanted to see how it would compare.......so we did about a 1/2 mile run. Needless to say, after that he started looking for another Porsche. If they ever made a turbo Boxter.....I would be all for it. But I think it does not live up to the Porsche name. A 944 Turbo is a 15 year old porsche that out performes a new one???????? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Perhaps your modified 944 should run against a modified Boxster? Or do you not have the '*****' for that?

Why come over here and try to bash the Boxster. The 968 better? Pahlease... get a grip and go elsewhere, we don't want or need your kind here...

I'll be looking for you in my rear view mirror at the car wash, probably the closest you'll ever get..

(can't wait for the sorry a$$ reply to this one...)

I am seriously posting my opinion here....as a porsche owner I have a right to discuss what I like and dont like about these cars. I ran my car with just about anything you could think of, and only got beat once....and it sure wasent a boxter. Do I detect some inadequatecy form you? NO? Than why so defensive? Yes Ive driven a Boxter......it handels great......but it HAS NO *****! How can you justify a new nissan altima bieng faster than a boxter? In MY opinion Porsche sold out when it built it.

Yeah its a chick car, too soft. maybe if it were more like the concept car.
Its the porsche that wears panties!
But thats fine leave them to the house wives!
The M roadster is much less girly.

it doesnt have so much to do with how the car handles or even how fast it is(but the boxster certainly isnt helping it self)

Also seeing them a dime a dozen doesnt make them too atractive either, not that I would take one if it were free (and trade it in on a 951 and 928 for the same price)

Also as a side note if youll notice the number of posts on the Boxter board are FAR less then the 911/944/928 boards, just goes to show that its more of a vanity car, might be a nice fun to drive car, but i think id rather have a 914-6

And there are no more 924/944/951/968s any more. Get over it. Front engines are no more!

You just keep buying those parts...helps keep the economy going.

As for 914s (6 or otherwise), you have a point - not just anyone can drive a Volkswagon. Even girls won't drive it.

MDanger and Turby,

You are both complet MORONS. If you would trade a 986 in on a 928 or 951 you are helpless.

Please take a clue. My Boxster tears the E46 M3 to shreds & I killed three 944 Turbos in the first week I had my car.

Last Sunday I ran against a 928GT for a two mile run and waited for him at the finish point for 10 seconds. So much for your 928 top speed king. I hit 170 and never saw him once we hit the onramp.

I invite MDanger and Turby to meet Ken2ks and I just south of Omaha in the spring at Mid America Motorplex and we will personally drive circles around your A$$ (if you even own a Porsche) or can get your ancient 951 to make it to Omaha.

Turby - If you can't drive an Altima faster than a Boxster plase do not come to the track. I retract my invite.

Stay home and dream about the day you own ANY porsche.

Damn this board is getting lame. Not a good topic in weeks.

Turby & M Danger Boxsters are fine cars. No they do not have simple straight line speed potential of 944 Turbo. Heck not many cars can be easily increased in hp by 50% or even doubled.

But don't discount the abilities of the Boxster S or even regular Boxster. These are fine cars on the street, autocross and race track. A well driven Boxster S is good match for any other Porsche. Sure it will lose vs some cars with good drivers, but it will hold is own just fine.

For that mater a 944 Turbo will also hold its own. Most Porsches are such great performance cars that the single biggest speed differentator is driver skill not car potential. This is different in straight line where little skill and much hp is required. Of course that is why prefer the turns of race track. I know a guy with 944 NA that is faster than his 400ph 944 Turbo. Not in a straightline of course, but at the autocross.

Boxster guys... Just remember that not all 944 Owners complete idiots!

Boxster 3.4, Just curious, How much hp does your boxster have? It sounds really fast. Is it over the four hundred horsepower mark? I doubt it.

400 ponies .... no afraid not. 276 SAE at the rear wheels on the FVD dyno in Florida. I kept the 5 speed from my 99 which cost me a few and the stock muffler (did upgrade cats and headers) which cost a few more. Kept the 5 speed due to cost and the muffler to keep the sound a little more mild.

FYI a Z06 corvette pulled a 345 on the same dyno.

I suppose your going to tell me that your 951 has 350 or 375 something like that with all the boost your running. If so you've likely been taken by another "tuner" dyno. Lets see you pull a run on the fvd dyno (real SAE HP not European) or lets see your time slip from the strip.

I've got a 12.852 / 106 slip how about you?

I don't see whats so girly about a car that makes the 'Stang 5.0 boys cry. My girlfriend owned a stock 2001 Boxster (until it was destroyed in a 100 mph head on collision). I used to drive it more than she did. I ate Mustangs for lunch. Old guys putzin' around in their Vettes just felt even older. I once blew away a guy in a heavily modified 300ZX turbo at 135 mph.

Listen man, you MUST drive a Boxster to its full potential and really learn it before you can call it the "poor man's Porsche" or a "GIRL's CAR."

Until then,

Porsche: there is no substitute.
